Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 7

So I know final cut 7 is more professional than pro x but while looking it up i didnt really find out in what ways they downgraded (other than making it more basic.) I saw my friend using it and did alot of the same features as the recents finals cut pros... Im most likely going to get a macbook pro this christmas and was wondering is final cut pro 7 worth it? or will final cut pro x be a good editing program?ps. I already have final cu pro 7 for my imac

i've downloaded both on my macbook. after editing for the past months with fcp7, i opened fcpx and wanted to shoot myself... it's that bad

this x infinity!! if you already edit in FCP7 dont even waste your time downgrading to that lame excuse of software that should be called imovie pro. cuz it is the exact same as imovie and if you wanna make something cool happen, its a royal pain in the ass compared to the ease and timeline use of fcp7. thats how i feel on it anyway. its just like a fat kid on a diving board...complete flop

final cut pro x isn't backwards compatible with 7 so if you are jumping between two computers keep it the same, but don't be so quick to knock off X. It really depends on what you need it for and there are definitely some pros to it. Number one is the background rendering for dslr footage is awesome, no more waiting to transcode, although premiere isn't an issue but that's another topic. I use both 7 and X at work as well as premiere at home. I'm a PC guy but I like doing projects in both final cuts. I like the precision of 7 but on many projects where it doesn't need to be crazy editing I find X a lot more relaxing and free flowing. You learn to anticipate the program's actions and will find that it's a lot quicker and smarter than some may think. either one is good just think about what you'll actually be doing with it and consider the prices

i feel like the worst part of it (IMO) was how much it changed... it's so much different, it was almost TOO simple and stupid, i didn't want to waste my time on something that i already knew in a different version

i still use fcp 6 haha. i talked to this guy who works for a filming company on the lift the other day...he was saying how X was just a complete new system that had to be relearned...and when you dont have time to relearn something...its not worth it when it comes to loosing money...made sense to me...and i will continue to use 6 ha
