What are the differences between the two? My friends all say tht there the same thing but I want to know how their different.

Final Cut Pro has some more fine tuning sorta features on just about every effect unlike final cut express. it runs much smoother with various video formats and is very easy to use with all of the other programs that come in the FCP suite.

If your looking for something better than iMovie but not looking to make a lot of edits or get really serious about learning a bunch of new software, get Final Cut Express

If your looking to really get into editing and willing to learn the full capabilities of all the software and the cool stuff you can make with it all, get Final Cut Pro, you will not regret it

I have used both of them a decent amount. One problem with using express is it doesn't come with Cinema Tools, which your probably going to want. Don't know what your gonna be filming with, but I just got a DSLR and needed Cinema Tools for conforming footage. Also express won't let you convert footage in streamclip using Apple ProRes format. Pro also has the 3-way color corrector and express doesn't. I'd just get a torrent for Pro and call it a day.

That thread was kinda useless, compared to the info people are giving in this thread...but yeah OP you coulda searchbarred this.

Your friends are stupid.

One is a consumer program, one is a professional program. If you can afford FCP it comes with all the bells and whistles and if you're serious, you'll learn how to use them. Apple Color and Motion are VERY powerful programs, but I'm too lazy to verify whether FCP comes with them for sure.

Is cost an issue?

The main advantage FCP has over FCE is that you have more control over your project settings. With FCE you are restricted to a handfull of codecs and timeline framerates, whereas with FCP you have a plethora of options. Plus it comes with tools like Quicktime Pro and Cinematools, which I couldn't live without.

alright i torrented FCP and seemed to go fine but once i put a clip in and i try to render it says theres insufficient space on the disk. idk how thts possible because its a brand new macbook and there is literally no memory space taken up. please help +k

All the posts above seem to sum it up pretty well, but the things i noticed are, much more codec in Pro, move export options, Pro comes with studio and cinema tools (which are very handy) and I am sure there are some more sublet differences.
both Pro and Express are real easy to torrent too by the way....
