Fimlming is a pain in the ass!

i ski with tons of people, all the time. but the prob is, we all love to ski so much that we never get to film! in your crew, do you have a designated filmer, or do you trade off, or what. i dont understand how anyone can find someone who will give up their ski time and film. do you pay someone? idk just help me out here. carrying that damn tripod all over the mounatain, then hiking around to find a good angle, then hiking up to the top of the run just to find out that your battery died, that happens to me alot.
 
well... and this might be complicated to grasp here so work with me...
one person films for a run, and then, someone else gets the camera for the next run!
 
usually we kinda switch off.but i got a concussion this year sooooim kinda designated cuz i cant do any shit
 
yeah it's definitely a hassle. I always wish there was a kid that wanted to make a name for himself at my hill so he could always film! No such luck :(
 
yah, no doubt that works well with two people who want the shots. but lets say your with ten people. i suppose my dilema is that only two of us want to film, and the other ten want to ski. should i film and ditch my buddies, or should i screw it and ski.?
 
my "crew" has a designated filmer cause he dont do shit but then again i can barely do anything either
 
as long as two of you are filming, everyone gets filmed every run. and you get to hit everything every other run. sounds like a foolproof strategy to me!
 
ha thats what we do. sometimes we get a moan when we assign a new person but "everybody films" is our motto
 
Yeah my buddy and I normally trade off every run. It kinda sucks cuz its harder to get a rythm goin when you have to film every other run.
 
use a tripod when you are hiking a feature. not just set it up then film someone hitting it then put it back up. if only 2 people want to film then dont film anyone else besides people that are willing to film.

thats stupid. not wanting to take a turn filming yet wanting to be filmed
 
Best way to do it, unless like someone else said and one of your friends wants to make a name for himself filming.
 
it's not a waste for someone to give up their time to film if theyre dedicated to doing it for the love of skiing and cinematography. Any cinematographer will tell you that the moments when you sit out on shoots and get one banger in three hours are worth so much more than skiing with everyone.
 
We use a GoPro so that it fits in our pocket, if we don't feel like using it, we don't have to worry about having to put it back in the lodge, we just ski with it. Then we take our turns at filming. A small cam is the way to go if you want to film without a designated filmer who can't ski as he wants.
 
My favorite filming moment was when i headed up to sugarloaf without any of my buds and hung out with one kid all day and filmed. IF you are a dedicated filmer you have to have dedicated riders, and this kid (even though he was a snowboarder) wanted to get the shots as bad as i did, and we spent all day just hiking and getting so many sick shots, and the stoke level was unreal. It was probably the best film days I have ever had and it's so rewarding. As long as everyone is commited to doing it, it will be worth the effort it takes.
 
I used to be all about just shreddin', but now I'm starting to take joy in the challenge of filming...especially good follow cams. It's almost as hard as bustin' the trick itself.

I guess it's all just about what artistic pursuit you dig most. If anyone rides Homewood or Alpine on the reg, I'd be happy to shoot for you or your crew.
 
Get a point and shoot camera and film only when u know ur gonna do a dope trick. Film everybody else until you think of a dope trick that you think you can do after you got them a couple times and be like "dude, film me i think i can do this trick" and then switch
 
definitely a pain in the ass, but we all take turns depending on who is doing what and only worry about getting a few of our potentially better shots
 
we always have that one kid that isnt really good at park but still our friend...so we make him film, haha. he loves it though cause he thinks he looks cooler with a camera than going around all the features doing nothing important.
 
We have one designated filmer and editer, but we also take turns when he isn't around. Nothing serious yet, just putting up some small edits so we can be stoked on what we are doing and seeing some progress filmwise.

just switch off, then all you have to do is watch people. whereever your head is pointed the camera is pointed.
 
I have got 2 concussions this year... Iskied the next day on both. but then again thats probably why i am so stupid
 
Trade off camera every three runs or so, or if someone's tired or not feeling it or recovering from injury, they can film. I usually end up doing a lot of filming because I like it more than most of the other people I ride with.
 
Find someone that isn't great at skiing or snowboarding and have them film. Another alternative is to get a person who doesn't hits rails and jumps to film you. I go with two friends, a snowboarder and then a newb snowboarder who shoots for us. That way I made a ski/snowboard montage.
 
I film, but that is because my park skills are serious lacking so there is no point to me being filmed. But filming is dope, and I clicked on this thread to find out was 'fimlming' is.
 
I enjoy filming and being filmed, but the rest of my crew are lazy and only want to be filmed.. Some of them really suck at filming too..
 
if you ski and film you get maybe 90% of the pleasure of skiing, but in the summer, editing and watching your movies provides another 100% fun, so imho its definately worth it !
 
i have a flip vid, so theres no prob with carrying it around. but yah there is only two of us who want the shots. sucks so bad cause he only comes down on weekends.

haha and god forbid you if you ever brought your parents into the park to fillm. my mom can barely see the buttons!
 
Same problem... I am willing to take my turn filming, but then suddenly my friends don't want to film... So it all ends up with nothing of me, and all of the rest...
 
well one of the kids I ski with can't do much in the park and he has a really nice camera so he films
