Filmmakers- What is the best budget 3 CCD camera out right now?

I will be making my third movie this year and am interested in moving up in the DV camera world. What do you guys think is the best 3 CCD camera to get in the $1,000 to $2,000 ballpark? maybe even getting one used.

And, on a similar note, what are the top digital productions companies like Level 1 using these days?

berman uses the sony FX-1 now, the sony HD cam... last year i think he used a GL2. not sure tho

Panasonic released an awesome line of budget 3ccd cameras, ive go the mid-range one, the nvgs150 and its great.

GCR BLITZ

you can get a sony hi-def i think for 2999 but thats too much. check out some panasonic shit

i just realized this...pussyfooter has 2 names, one with 5 thousand posts and one with 2 thousand. that's a fucking ton.

buy Sony.

3500 gets you an HDR-FX1 if you want HDV, or around 2k gets you the VX2100. Can't go wrong either way.

Panasonic NVGS400, although I've heard that the new pro-sumer HDV camera is insane. Personally, I given the movement towards Hi-def production and DVD players and burners is just around the corner, I wouldn't bother with 3CCD anymore. Given the afforability of Sony's HDV cameras I would have gone for it if I knew it was going to be released so soon after I got my NVGS 400.

berman either shot with sony vx2100 or pd170 (very similar), but this year he shot with the HDR-FX1. all the other film companies shoot with the panasonic dvx100a

you can get a GL2 for cheap, I don't know, I get my gear for WAY less then these prices.

i dont think panasoics are as relyable and canons dont have the popularity of sonys so it might be better to go with a vx2100

BUY NOMICS NOW WWW.NOMICS-INC.COM

If you want good quality and the lowest price, the only choice is a used VX1000. You might be able to get a GL1 quite cheap now but probably not as cheap as the Sony. Forget anything else - it's either too expensive or not good, seriously.

i would get the panasonic, the one that can shoot 24p. HD is still a little ways off, and 24p looks sick, way closer to the look of film

vx1000

beats vx2k, vx2k1, gl1, gl2, and most other 3ccd camcorders (excpet the dvx100) for daytime shot

so,

get a vx1k, check out xia's auctions on ebay or search for him, hes this dude from toronto that refurbishes vx's, you can get one that comes with a warranty even though they are liek 8 years old,

i think his actaul name is xiaxinde, look it up on ebay anyways,

^don't get a vx1000 they suck however a sony vx2000 would be good for that budget so would a GL1 or possibly a GL2 if you shop well you could also consider a used camera like a vx2100 or a canon xl1 or xl2 used.

^ i ask you, where do you get your information?

and filming skiing with an xl1?

i don't think so.

prove me the vx1k sucks...

my GL2 costs the same amount as an Arri 16 S cam. add another $500 and you get S/B!

All hail the hypno toad!
