Filming with a DSLR without much/any stabilization

Hey guys,

Im going out west in a month or so and need a little bit of help. I am indeed bringing my tripod out with me, but not onto the hill. Im not bringing my glidecam at all. What I will have on my camera: Rode Video mic, Tamron 17-50 non-vc, and a LCD viewfinder.

What I am really trying to say is, stabilization wise, what would be my best bet so that my footage can be usable? Or any tips either on keeping the camera still while shooting? I will be shooting pretty wide mostly, 35mm and under. Dont really feel like lugging out my tripod, but still want to pull a few shots out of the trip.

+K for help!

i know you said you didn't want to really lug your tripod out, but without your glidecam, i'd say mounting it on the tripod, extending the legs a little, and holding it around the head would be your best bet stability-wise

Thanks guys. MidAtlantic: im going out there to ski. Dont really wanna dick around filming where im stuck in michigan when it rains all the time. Im gonna have my go pro for POV shots for shits and giggles, but want to have my real camera for different types of shots the go pro cant achieve. Gavinrudy: dont reallly wanna bring the tripod out at all. Its just a pain in the ass to me when im not filming. I will be filming very minimal. I just need to make those few shots usable.

yeah i think if your makin the long trip mainly so you can ski for yourself and not so much a filming/shooting trip, i say bring the gopro an extra ski pole and have someone film you for a change. where over here are you going?

^ cant quote because im on mobil. But im heading to either breck/vail for a day then 4 days at winter park. Staying for free 30 min from WP, so mine as well go. Are you out in colorado?
