Hey NS. My name is Dan and my friends and I are trying to revolutionize how you can share your adventures with the world by streaming GoPro footage live over the internet. We want to build our platform based on what the consumers want, so we’re reaching out to our potential customers to help gain some knowledge.

To make this happen, we need your help. By filling out our survey, you can learn more about how we plan to make this possible as well as provide us with valuable information that can help us turn this dream of ours into a reality. After completing the survey, you'll be able to see a collection of all the results we've collected so far.

We're still in the super early development stage and need opinions from rad people such as yourself. If you'd like to learn even more about our idea or want to contribute your thoughts to it, please comment here and I'll be glad to help

Stay steezy

I think it's a terrible idea. Nobody likes watching gopro / pov edits anymore, especially if they contain mediocre skiing and shitty editing. Not many people like watching some rando's raw gopro footy, and I cannot imagine anyone would want to watch some gaper's live stream down the bunny hill. The only way I would watch would be live stream of a skier in a comp. Competitions are the only live streams I want to watch because it is guaranteed action with useful filler content such as Luke Van Valin as commentator. There would be way too much live stream of lift riding and boring groomers.

I completely agree that content is key for this to be successful. Sure there will be the gapers, but the bigger (and personally more exciting) idea would be people developing their own personalities via this live stream. Would you watch streams that had personalities like Chug or TC or others of that tier? Comps are definitely on our radar as well.

I can't think of any reason I would want to watch a live gopro feed. No one can be entertaining all day, that's why you film multiple days for one edit. But, I do think you could have a successful product if you marketed it to the average gaper that has a gopro now. "Watch your kids ski from home" etc.

How do you plan on streaming footage? Surely not in HD? the amount of bandwidth needed isn't small and the only way i can image doing it is through a phone app? people will blast through their 2gb plan in a day of streaming...

@ehv: We're still developing the details but right now we're looking at two options: one is a SIM card attachment to the GoPro that uses cell tower's M2M technology to stream. The other option is the GoPro connects to your smartphone which then broadcasts the stream. We understand bandwidth is an issue for existing data plans and have a couple of ideas for a workaround.

Oh great! A streaming platform for shitty pov by gapers....no but really, anyone who films with a gopro and isnt a gaper makes an edit out of the footage, and defo wont wanna share it online raw.

People in here are definitely pissing on your parade Dan, and I'm sorry to see it. But I'm going to have to say I'm not a fan of the idea either. I don't really see the value in watching it or streaming it. I don't want to watch someone else ski live unless their name is KC Deane, and I'm not going to go through an ounce of headache to let one guy in Montana watch me rip through a few trees. I'd rather just film footy and then make an edit when I get home.

@Dan, I think you've got a great idea here. I don't think you're marketing it to the right audience. You might be more successful coming up with something on your own and going to the media outlets that cover skicross and alpine racing. People that follow those sports go crazy for that kind of footage.

While Go Pro mounts are illegal in skicross racing, they are legal in training and I think fans would be stoked to be able to follow athletes down the course in training runs; especially at full speed.

I don't think I'd ever want to watch a live stream, let alone one filmed only with a go pro. I don't see why anyone would choose to sit and watch a live stream of someone skiing when they have access to videos that have a lot of effort put into them. I can sit on newschoolers for hours a day watching videos I've never seen before at a higher quality. The amount of ski media put out today is amazing, why watch a half hour of live streaming where you see maybe one run when you could watch 10 edits that are undoubtedly going to be more enjoyable to watch.

With that said I don't think you should give up on the idea, I may be missing some points and more entertainment is never a bad thing.

It could be a decent idea. This way you would see people stomping massive tricks, but you would also see their falls-something you don't always see in edits.

pitch the concept to ski schools, and strap the gopros on the instructors. parents would probably be psyched to be able to watch their kids learn to rip, and the ski hill could add a cost for that "feature" in a lesson.

As a ski instructor I absolutely hate this idea. It is hard to teach when you feel like you are being judged by the kids parents. Its the worst when a parent stays in range of the lesson or stands at the bottom of the hill you're on and just watches. If you had to have a camera strapped to you it would feel like people were just constantly spying and judging you. inb4 "you are a shitty instructor and you just don't want parents to find out"
