Film vs. Digital

I need a new camera (still). I'm debating whether to go film SLR or digital SLR. What are your thoughts on the pros and cons of both types? Also, what cameras would you suggest?
 
Film will be overall much more expensive and alot more effort, due to more film spent on experimenting and mastering techniques. Film, when done well, in my opinion, looks better. But ya, much more money and effort.
 
if you have the money and patients then go with film. looks much nicer. especially black and white. it would be pricey for all the developing unless you buy your own chemicals and enlargers.

digital is way easier and therefor you can focus a lot more on getting a good shot. you can take as many shots as you want instead of being more conservitive. helps you get better quicker.
 
Why is film so much more expensive? Just buying film and developing? Cause you can get a decent film camera for like 300 but a good digital for about 800.
 
well in the last 4 months i have shot about 8,000 photos with my d200, and i can tell you this much, i sure as hell would not have been able to shoot that much if i had film expense. Plus it sure is cool to go out and do a shoot, then just hook your camera up to the computer, upload a few photos to the internet and then get critiques by superb photographers. I used to shoot film, and I typically went out shot a roll, got it processed a week or so later, then it takes forever to scan in the images you want with a film scanner. I just feel with digital you are able to learn so much quicker. Dont get me wrong, i love film, but i just dont see myself ever using it again. Especially now that i dont have daily access to a world class darkroom. But anyways, just my $.02
 
it really depends what you will be doing with it.

like everyone aid, digital is going to help you get better faster, but when you get really good with film, it really pays off.

 
trust me, get the best dugutal SLR you can afford.

film is only worth it for me because i get free film.
 
digital hands down. film is such a bitch to work with. if you negative doesnt turn out, well shit thats just too bad! digital pictures you can view them on spot and i think thats extremely useful. im not a fan of 35mm photography. i have some pictures in my profile under "pictures" you can look at that i took
 
the best digital camera in the world won't help you take good photographs.

just like how the best race car in the world can finish dead last without a good driver.

buy a film slr, so that you can learn the fundamentals of basic photography, and then when you feel confident you can buy your digital slr.
 
i have a film slr and i havent experimented it with it yet and i've had it for ayear lol..mainly because i am so broke.and i know once i start fooling around with it i will have to dig into my wallet more and more. but yes it looks better. so its really up to you.
 
DIGITAL

for the love of god I want a digital slr.

film = processing film then darkroom printing (which is a whole other agony and process in itself). or going and getting the film developed and printed at a shop ($$$)

digital = take pictures, upload to computer, maybe photoshop. easy to share with people, and you get pictures instantly.
 
I agree that I like the look of film better, but it's expensive, and digital seems just more practical these days, and you can shoot more
