Film Production Question

Alright, I got a question for you guys who make professional ski films. Not sure if you use 16mm or digital, but, say your going to make a 16mm vid, would you really have to go to college first to learn all the shit or can you learn / pick up most of the stuff along the way.

Stuff like editing, sound mixing for a 16mm film, not digital. Is that stuff pretty easy to pick up or not. Would you need the basics through college or could ya probably just learn the stuff while your working on it. Thanks for any info. Later.

hmmmmm good question. I'd say if you're just going for 16mm no sounds and then editing it on computer then you don't need to go to film school but you will have to do a lot of reading up on it. If you're gonna sync sound and do film effects and film editing then film school would be best.

agreed. if all you are going to do is get you 16mm transfered at a lab to dv tape for computer editing, then you're set. however, doing the whole mess yourself would need learning. personally i think it would be silly to not use computer editing if you have the chance.

I agree that it is possibl do to ALOT of reading...I have a Bolex H16 and the only reason I kno how to use the apertures and toher things so the light is right i learned from photography
