Film Industry

Ive been debating going into film for a long time...a major in PreMed isnt all that fun when my best friend is going to film school...Does anyone know what it take to get into that field? Im sure that the pay must be shit, and the industry seems to be getting crowded but I'm interested...and how the fuck do companies like Level 1 and Meathead make it? They make some great shit but they seem new in a tough pecking order (if you get what Im saying)...

its alot of work, it want to do it tho! you just gotta do some research. i hope to be going to school for it next year. and im designing a digital recording arts class for my school. so sometime in january I can teach kids to do it! wee! pay isnt shit for hollywood type movie shoots. its just longs days and many hours in an editing suite.

you need to have skills and connections. you can go through film school and learn all about it but if you are not learning the hands on skills your not going anywhere.

thats such shitty advice dude, you dont need connections or anything. All you need is a passion for your work and a knowledge of film structure.

you are right, and also enter film comps and if you win alot you will become more and more known, its fun, although it is a cruel and demanding field, but its worth it when people like your work, and when it turns out the way you want it to

you get the luxuries of eating top ramen and a steady diet of government cheese as a ski film producer. I know a select very very few who make a decent living in the ski film industry, depending on your standards of 'decent'. My definition of a decent living is CLEARING in excess of + $40K/yr. Not that easy at all.

And it isn't easy getting your start either. Good luck.

Yeagh I was considering taking my winter semesters off and moving to Jackson Hole or somthing and working on a piece...Everyone in the mid-west knows of my films and shit, and they like them alot...its amazing how fast word spreads about stuff like that...the only problem is that they're not copyrighted on anything so sending them in would only get me infringement...
