Film Camera Questions

Well I just found this old Konica FT-1 Motor film camera that my mom has been saving forever now. So my question to you NS, what are some basic tips and tricks with this..

I did buy some Fujifilm 400 ISO color film and Kodak 400 ISO B&W.

P.S. Not sure if this is dust on the sensor or not, but when I try to focus the camera, it never really comes out completely focused, it's always slightly off.

lol.

What kind of focusing screen does it have? Is there a split image circle in the center of the view finder, or is it just plain ground glass?

basic tips and tricks.... be prepared to be disappointed A LOT. you're not going to be able to check how your photo came out until you get film processed, and inevitably, especially when starting out, you're not gonna have a lot of really good shots.

Don't be sorry. Everyones new at some point. But do you know how to focus using a split prism? You want to put the split image circle over what you want in focus, and move the focus ring until the two images align perfectly. Sometimes it helps to focus on a spot with a high contrast edge.

Also, probably not a bad idea to clean your mirror and ground glass if you can get to it. Clean it just as you would a lens, blow off the dust first, then gently clean it with disposable lens tissues and a few drops of lens cleaner.

There's not really all that much we can tell you just yet. I would say your best bet will be to go out and shoot what feels right and post the results here so we can give you some shooting tips.

Yeah, I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. That spit focus takes a little while to get used to but once you do it is dope. I find that it is easiest to focus on something vertical, like a tree or telephone pole. Have fun, I have really enjoyed shooting film.

You are just jealous that when I bracket a shot, three versions of the photo win first place in three different categories.

All thanks to Tri-X.
