Also: Laurens (and others), I've been selected to be a trainee at Foam (Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam), which is fucking rad. Especially because there were almost 250 applicants.

Congrats! I've been there a few times a couple of years ago. Complex building.

We should do this as an NS thing. Let's start a thread, pick a start date, and do it. It will be awesome. Come up with rules - like everyone involved post 5 best shots at end of each month, nothing is posted in the thread besides photos and discussion of those photos.

i could be down. lets start it on january 1 so it is a complete calendar year (easier to remember starts then and monthly posts come at the start of the month)

My friend traded in his Pentax k1000 with some lenses + like $100 for a Yashica T4 at this camera shop. Well two days later it broke so they gave him that Canon p&shit as a 'replacement'; I chuckled.

Ouch... Yeah, I'm not even going to put film through this thing because the AF is slow as frozen shit, and I have better options.. It was 99 cents, I figured it would just be kinda cool for the collection or to give to a friend one day.

Wow! I am really jealous that you can mount your other lenses to that 35mm, that's sick. Do you think that would be possible with my Vivitar V3800N if I got an Adapter?????

Probs brah, just look it up on the internet

Who's in?

I could do it for my purely personal work, I only own one lens for my Leica which is basically only loaded with Tri-x (in XTOL) anyways, sometimes Ektar if I feel adventurous. Although, I'm kind of 'obligated' to shoot other formats for school, and I have some projects already planned for this winter that will be done on medium format with Tri-x and Portra.

i finally got around to developing some arista 400 pushed to 800. D-76 with ilfostop and kodak fixer. there were a few i was pumped on, but for the most part i think next time i push from 400 to 800 i'll underexpose everything by a stop or so because everything seemed too light. maybe i overdeveloped? I went 20% over the recommended for tri-x 400. thoughts?

You're not a regular anymore? I'm surprised. I figured you'd go at least a couple times a year.

Thinking about buying a Canon Eos-1vhs 35mm to replace my vivitar 35mm and also I can use my lenses I have for my DSLR on it. It Seems really good but want to here from you guys. Heres one on EBay for only $360 plus $50 shipping and your looking around $410.

Just get a Eos-3. That'll be more than good enough. Personally I would never get a Canon EF film camera because they feel like shit compared to any 60-70's camera.

It's one of those I'll go sometime next week, and then next week: maybe next week,....etc..

Ignore all that, and Definitely go for the EOS-3 if you want to shoot your EF glass on film. It's a pretty solid camera, and has the same Autofocus as the Eos 1v, and early 1D's - only it has the awesome EYE CONTROL feature, which apparently recognizes where the iris in your eye is looking, and autofocuses on that spot. It's not perfect, obviously, but it's a pretty cool system.

If I were to still be shooting Canon glass, I'd totally get an Eos-3. Fuckin cool camera. there's nothing the Eos 1 can do that the Eos-3 can't - and I'm pretty sure the Eos 1 requires some special battery, too.

You know, you could go out and shoot the camera you have and spend money on film instead of buying more shitty cameras at a thrift store like a stereotypical film hipster

You know, you can stop acting like a stereotypical pretentious film hipster and just worry about your own shit. Go shoot photos yourself or wank off to your cameras rather than acting like an uppity prick to people in here.

Hell, he has a point.

I have fucking boxes of Minolta's, never use them, mostly give them to friends who want to try film.

p.s., Sean, do you want a Minolta?

Chances are pretty good I'm not going to use either of these cameras. It's mostly collecting for fun, for resale, or for, as you said, giving away (which is probably what I'll do with the canon point/shoot)

Sure. Send me a Minolta. Better yet, send everyone a Minolta.

I'd be afraid that the Uranium in them wasn't fully depleted. Never trust the Soviets and radioactive materials...

Shit talk is healthy as long as it's true. Go cry about it on tumblr.

Tight...

No, it's true that collecting novelty cameras has zero effect on the merit of your work. Collecting anything as a hobby seems like an entirely worthless exercise.

Photography has the most obnoxiously materialistic culture which devolves most attempts at discussion into a misguided consumption circle jerk. God forbid somebody acknowledges that none of that shit actually matters...

Not that I am the arbitor of how anyone spends their time and disposable income (that's your right, after all).

But if you're going to go down Consumption Avenue, don't parade your your materialism as some sort of righteous artistic endeavor in order to justify it to others. Let's call a cat a cat here, people - cut the shit.

It's not the act I object to, it's the insincerity.

...and since when was the merit of my work ever brought into question with my collecting of cameras? Shit, it's not like I'm the only one who's even posted thriftshop finds anyway.

I agree that sometimes photography morphs more into the "my camera has more megapixels than your camera" and the "wow what lense did you use for that pic bro" comments etc etc, and of course to the more esteemed photography enthusiast this can be seen as kinda low-brow if you will... but the fact of the matter is, most of us go through the tech-fap phase of photography. I definitely have as I'm sure you'd be so kind to point out otherwise. Most guys on here have. Hell, you might have as well at one point.

End of the day: It's exciting to be excited about new toys. Get over it.

I get that you're looking for quality in a camera, but seeing how it doesn't matter if you put your roll of film in a shitty body or a great body, I wouldn't be too worried about that.

Nice circular logic. So profound.

You're the one who was getting butthurt because somebody didn't validate your stamp collecting. The burden is on you to "get over it."

I don't care about validation. The part of photography that I DESPISE is when people act like pretentious pricks about something - like what we've seen here.

...anyways enough of this. Can we seriously stop this bullshit and get back to film photography? Thanks.

thanks but no thanks. I'm officially on video/photo hiatus to focus on music for the next few years. Since my new phone is a piece of shit Android, I must rely on my trusty Lumix ZS8 to get the job done:
