Hey I really want to film this year and if I film it woill double as a senior project.

My dad has a sony camcorner taht says

HDR-Hc7 HDV 1080i is it a legit camera to film skiing?

Im totally new to this so I was wondering since i think its an HD camera the quality will be good.

and should I use the memorystick to film or an 8mm film

thanks alot guys

dont know anything about the camera.

but by reading the name i know you should record onto hdv tapes.

actually just read on the site cause i went and looked at it...and it said minidv...but you cant get an hd picture of that..

i really dont know someone will though

thanks so far

but im still lost to whether to film on the minidv films or the memory stick

will the quality of picture change?

and is editing easier with one or the other?

sorry if these questions are dumb, im getting a friend who is good at editing to edit cause as you can see im super dumb with this stuff but since he doesnt ski I cant borrow his camera so im stuck with the hc7

Joke right? I mean if you like sitting through full 60 mins of tapes importing clips that 80% wont even be usuable, then ok. I'll stick to a memory card where i click two buttons and it imports all of the clips i haven't deleted already.

Well i was just being harsh because i disagreed with the statement, but you'll be good. Buy those tapes you posted, get like 2-3 packs of them. Reusing tapes is doable but can get fucked up. You'll be perfect with your camera and HDV.

k but what did you mean when you said 80% of unusable clips

im really down for which ever because all i want is the best quality picture out of this mediocre camcorder because this is gonna be a school project as well so mad kids of my grade will be seeing this

I really can't get another camera

i hardly have enough to ski this season

and from what I read above the HC7 should suffice...hopefully

Meaning like a shot of someone and they fall or don't clean the rail or something. Nothing is wrong witht he shot physically, its just not a shot. With memory card cameras or hard drive cameras you can go into your viewer and delete clips you dont want. Less to deal with when you edit.

HDV tapes are way too expensive, and don't really make a difference. You can use regular DV tapes to record HDV. They'll be much cheaper, and work just as well. I use plain MiniDV with my HV20 and XHA1 and I've never had any problems. The quality is perfect.

I'd really almost rather shoot avchd vs hdv. It's basically the same quality, i suppose you could get a little bit better quality with hdv but maybe im just hooked on this not using tapes thing. Sorry, i guess what i was saying came off little wrong i didn't mean to sound like a dick.
