Figure skaters

anyone ever realise how a figure skater can spin like a 7 off of a foot of air? if somehow they went into skiing and were actually decent imagine what they would be able to spin off of a 50 foot jump. I dont know its just me speaking out of my ass but I think its quite the prospect.

it's a little different, since they have the picks on the front of their skates that help them transfer a lot of their lateral motion into vertial motion, and help them get their rotations dialed. but it is somewhat similar.

yo i am nasty at figure skating i went the other day with the acadamy and i could throw switch sevens and land on one foot and such and ive never done it before, i tihnk im going to quite siing and figure skate. its so ill

HAHA are you serious? mad props if you are but it's just funny to think of a male figure skater being like "ya i am nasty at figure skating", "it's so ill" hahaha

I thought the same thing, 1080 out of 1 foot of air...I asked a girl at my school that wants to go to the olympics and all but she isnt allowed to ski cuz it could ruin her career if she got injured

yeah seriously, when you watch the guys skating, any time one of them spins a quad its a 1440 from flat, so nasty

i figure skate competitively and im pretty sure we can spin both ways. you just dont see that in competitions on tv

if only they didn't wear sequined, one-piece, spandex suits i might have some more respect. i do have respect for their ability to spins though

Realize that when you spin on skis, you have 3+ feet of ski hanging out on each side, you you cant spin nearly as fast. Have you ever seen a skier spin as fast as a figure skater, or have you ever seen a skier kick the nose of his ski into the lip to get extra spin? I certainly hope not.

i dont know if you know, but toe picks are even more dangerous. Any wrong edge. then bam toe pick and you're so fucked. trust me ive had some mad nicidences

Also take into consideration that when a figure skater spins they bring in their arms to increase centrifrugal force. If they transferred their skills to skiing, the only way they'd be able to spin as fast as they do on the ice would be through penciled-out spins.
