Fighting my Ticket

I'm actually looking for help so if you're just gonna be a dick then move to another thread. If you have experience with this kind of situation, any help would be much appreciated.

So last friday, the 9th I was driving to get my new skis and then go do some hiking and skiing. As I come around the corner there's a cop in the highway and he points to the side of the road and I know Im screwed. I pull behind 2 other cars who are already there. The cop walks up and asks for my license and registration and I gave it to him. He explained I was clocked by the New Hampshire State Patrol Aviation Unit doing 86 in a 65mph area. I knew right away I was fucked and I was getting a ticket, and I sure did, a $350 one. So I take my shame and continue and had a sick afternoon of skiing.

So my question is, are there any ways to get it lowered or to get rid of it. I plan on going to court and trying to see what I can do about it. I know all about going to court and if the cop doesn't show then I'm off the hook. I've also read that the ticket must be signed by the pilot and the officer on the ground, and theres only one signature on it.

I'm a poor college kid and I've never gotten a ticket before. If you have any advice on what to say or what to do in court that would be awesome

even tho they can prove that you were speeding, you can still get it reduced. if you just explain to the judge that you dont ahve a lot of money it will be like simpathy, ive done it before with a 125 dolla ticket and got it reduced to 65, so its not much, but better. that is my advise

You could always murder the officer. He wont show up for sure.

But seriously, its your own fault for speeding, so own up to it. If your not responsible enough to drive safely then you deserve to pay the ticket.

I got a ticket for doing 79 in a 65 and I said I wasnt going that fast and the magistrate asked how fast I was goin and I said 69. She said that was still speeing but appreciated my honesty and dropped the ticket. But also she said it will never happen again so good luck.

tickets suck. You could say you had to get to a pressing appointment....which is true for you if you were going skiing, but I don't know if teh judges would think the same.....my Uncle got a $300 ticket on the way to his University graduation and the cop lowered it to like $80 b/c he was late for it.

haha, i warned you... when this happened to me, i showed up to court and the cops didnt show. try that if it doesnt work, offer to take a defensive driving class. you wont have to pay for the ticket and it will disappear after a certain amount of time.

ya you can ask to get it lowered...they might lower the ticket or hopefully take away the points ( points might cost you more than the speeding ticket beacuse you might pay higher for insurance)

most judges are dealing with poor people all day long, its not like you'll be the only person that thinks 350 bucks is a huge ticket. Most people on their first time, can play dumb and get something better our of the deal. They look at your record etc, and probly give you a deferal. But, I would probly practice what you want to say before hand, it will help get your point across.

Realistically? If you broke the law don't EXPECT any reduction at all. What they gave you was dictated by a sliding scale justified by a piece of legislation somewhere, authorized by a committee doing the work of elected officials. Judges hate cutting the nuts off of elected officials. If there's a standard out that that makes sense they might just say "sorry, them's the rules". You can make just about any sob-story argument you like and they might reduce it, but it's a longshot. I advise against making technical points like the signatures, that'll just piss off the judge. "I was driving to have dinner at my 97 year old grandma's house and I was late" would be better. I forget if you can perjure yourself in traffic court though. Cause don't do that, that would be a bad call.

call up the cop who gave you the ticket or the deparments prosecuter, talk to him, and ask if you can go to a defensive driving class if they hold the ticket without a finding for 180 days. Thats what i did with my last two tickets in NH, just take the class and dont get caught speeding again for 180 days and it'll never show up on you record.

do i still have to pay for it if i do that though? basically im just looking for a way to get it lowered because i definitely dont have the cash to pay for the thing and still make it till the end of the semester when i can work again.

i would just go to court and try...i've never had anything like that happen, but could there be any consequonces from going to court and seeing if you could get it reduced/nulled?

Definitely go to court.  The DA will offer you something better.  Explain what happened, tell him/her you're a good driver, and that it is your first ticket ever.  That last part is key- DA's like that.  You might want to write an account of everything that happened just so you remember- things like the weather, traffic, what road it was, what direction you were headed, the cop's attitude...

good luck

and fuck the police, and especially, fuck speed limits!

wow that steep

my friend was going 59 in a school zone (30 km/h) (canada) and his ticket was only 180$

he didn;t go to court

but another freind of mine got a stunting ticket reduced to 100 bucks and all the points were dismissed and i believe that was his second stunting ticket in his new car which hes had for about 2 months and he had police visit his house last winter about complaints that he was drifting around the neighborhood when it snowed

usually you can get it reduced just by showing up then more by saying ur saving for school or paying for it and shit like that

were there a lot of people on the road and were the conditions good - you could go in that direction because i have heard it can work - if they think the conditions were fine and you weren't putting anyone in danger you could be alright - if not nullified i could get reduced

except for the cost of the class which is about $50, but thats $300 less than paying your ticket plus if its not on your record, the insurance company wont raise your rates

i dont get how they expect the pilot to just land that shit to sign somthin...somehow i doubt thats a requirement but i may be wrong since i dont know that

and you live in america dude come on, its the only country that you go to court with a ticket knowing it'l get reduced atleast just a little bit, guaranteed. plead not guilty and u'l get it moved down depending on ur record.

if its your first ticket, just go to court with it and argue it, the judge will probably reduce it to a parking ticket if you offer to take traffic school

dont no if this was already said or not, to lazy to read all the posts.

one of my brothers friends is like the chief of police. you can ask for a reciept of the last time the radar gun was calabrated and if it wasnt calabrated in like the last 30 days you can say the gun might be faulty and get off.

again dont no if this was said already/ if this is even true but its worth a shot.
