alright, so most of you know I'm a total airplane nerd. I absolutely HATE HATE HATE war and military and all that bad shit, but I love military technology (the sad truth is that they get all the money, so they get to cool toys). So I really love military jets, etc.

So I went to see the new IMAX film playing now in Seattle: Fighter Pilot Operation Red Flag.

ok... soo.... it was really cool, don't get me wrong, it had some kick ass footage. But it was a TOTAL PROPEGANDA FILM!!!! Like not even subtly. It was like watching a recruitment film. Many of the shots were computer generated, which really dissapointed me. There were lots of shots that were taken from under the wing, or looking back at the rudder... they were all fake (the airplane was, the rest was real).

Then they showed a few shots of 'real ordinance' being dropped on dummy targets, but they were NOT real bombs, just fake charges set on the ground.

But then they showed ONE shot of REAL bombs hitting the ground, and it was kind of hard to watch. I mean it was HORRIFIC, you could totally see the shock propegating out, and just tearing the shit out of the desert.

There was all kinds of stuff that was like acted out, and was sooo corny. And they said shit like: 'My grandpa used to say about his flying in WWII, that after a mission it wasn't how many planes you shot down that mattered, but how many bullet holes the enemy put on your plane'

So much crap about making the enemy nice, and making it ok to kill the enemy, shit like that.

sounds interesting, its been a long time since Ive seen an IMAX movie. But ones about flight are cool

I'm so sick of jets and flight and all that bullshit. Pilots are assholes who think they are better than everyone just because they get to fly a fucking plane. I work on an aircraft carrier and I'm sick of their bullshit. I was like you once... loving military technology and whatnot, but now I can tell you that I could go the rest of my life without hearing a jet engine, and I would be a happy man.

 
well yeah but thats different. I'm sure military pilots are dicks. not civilian pilots though.

I think the technology is cool, not the people.
