FFM - Freeski Fashion Modeling

A little history first. The FFM formed in 2004 as a nameless group looking for a place to expose new fashion. It became apparent that the x-treme action sports world was a very influential place for fashions in today’s youth culture, so the energy was focused on investigating all of the x-treme sports of today. A year later, over the summer of 2005, the FFM had narrowed its search down to skateboarding and skiing, each having its own unique style. After a lot of meetings with industry folks from both sports, it was decided that skiing was the way to go, and the FFM was given its name.

The reason skiing was selected was because it has its own distinctive style, with the clothing being as important as the skills involved. In short, skiing was already a fashion show, so the FFM found it to be the perfect place to base itself.

The goal of the FFM is to bring fashion shows to slopes, through the 2006 North American Runway Tour. The FFM has hired ski icon Josh Loubek to act as our ambassador to the sport. Mr. Loubek will be traveling with the tour and acting as model and MC for the events. Further details, dates, and locations are being withheld at this point until everything is finalized, but be prepared for a fashion show like none other, at numerous resorts and locations around North America!

Is it really that good for the sport and culture, that we all love, to be taken over by people who have way over enthusized the materialistic side? Fashion shows do not belong in skiing. Yes, it may get more exposure to skiing. Yes, it may bring more clothing companies out. But mainly it is going to feed the people who just want to make money. It is almost as if skiing would be backtracking. Skiing has been laughed at for a long time by skaters, snowborders and mainly any other "extreme" sport, what do you think those groups and industries are going to think once we start holding on mountain fashion shows. Bring skiing back to heart, love skiing for what it is, SKIING. Not all the clothing, and technology...just the pure love for the sport.

I had heard something about this from some guys down in Mammoth a few months ago.

Sounded like they had some pretty strong backing behind it.

im ganna model, and im gonna get paid bitches! free clothes too!

actually im not but if i had the opportunity, who wouldn't

interesting. whats interesting even more is that they thought skiing was more of a fashino show htan skatebaording and snowboarding. i think what really happened is both industries said... "no".

skateboarding and snowboarding are WAY bigger fashion shoes than skiing. we don't even have hesh yet.

How can an entire industry say no? There's nothing keeping them out of a particular sport. They chose skiing.

this is dumb. im pretty sure ffm just loves skiing soooo much that they want to show it to the world cuz how great it is. fuck that. they dont give a shit about skiing as a sport. all they are doing is turning our sport into a whore. theyre just taking our ideas for clothing and turning into something that is fucking bullshit. i swear to god if i see paris hilton wearing an armada tshirt i will shit in her mouth. ask anybody from ffm if they know what a cork and a butter is and im pretty sure they will tell you something that keeps wine in a bottle and something that you put on toast. this kind of shit should not be recieved well in the skiing community.

well, skiing is definatly a fashion show now. How many of you kids were so proud to postr pics of yourbrand new ski and suit pictures, in that post your setup thread???

You guys created a monster, you dso whatever the cool guystell you to do, now deal with it.

I'M definatly not intoski modeling, but yea i know a lot of guys that would be interested.

#1: skiing and snowboarding are the same in the fashion sense.

#2 there is more money in skiing, or at least thats the idea most people have.

This is pretty x-treme.

Pretty x-tremely stupid. What kind of company that purports to be a part of this industry uses the "word"(I use the term loosely here) "x-treme"??

You do know that "Action Sports" is the term preferred by athletes and the "action sports industry", right?

Guess you forgot that simple basic thing. Oh well, it's just one of many factors that doom your "company" to failure. Try some basic reading next time: Go pick up Amped by David Browne. You can get it at Chapters. Dude isn't great, but at least he doesn't get it totally wrong from the start, unlike you guys.

Companies like FFM exhibit everything that is wrong with skiing today.

bang on....u guys did bring this on ur self being like look i spent more money then u or like "HA look what mommy and daddy bought me, now im better then u cause i look better"

fuck i dont care if people ski with a garbage bag for there ski suit.....skiing isnt about fashion...in the words of the ski instructuior of south park "skiing is about having a good time"...and its so true we all ski cause its fun...we dont ski to look good

i find it very weird they didn't pick snowboarding, i find that skiing clothes are strongly based on the snowboarding look i dunno it's just....weird

this is a great idea. whether you admit it or not you are all involved with fashion as soon as you get dressed in the morning.

surf and skate companies have been doing this for years. what a great oppertunity to showcase the new fashions of the ski industry

maybe now ski cloths will look good.

of course skiing is a fashion show... look at how much money many of us spend on the "sickest" gear to look good on the mountain.

Wow....where I am from the way you look has almost nothing to do with it. Everyone just has basic clothing but of very good quality. No one cares how dressed up you are. We have no park where I ski, so the only impression you are going to give out to people is how hard you are ripping on the hardest run below the lift.

Yes, my name is really Beau Steele.

I'm glad you kids are so excited about this, as I have been working around the clock trying to get arragments made for our models (all skiers, not pros like 'my man' Josh Loubek, but they are all REAL LIFE SKIERS). We're hoping to have things tied down enough to release more info around christmas (what a perfect x-mas present huh? and x-treme fashion show!)

The one thing I can say is... the fashion we have lined up will reflect the fashion that you see on the slopes everyday. Based around the upscale urban hip-hop look.

sorry, if it isn't XXX-treme, I don't bother.

Your event is only rated X-treme, a difference of 2 "X"-factors, and therefore completely unnaceptable to me.

It's like saying "I want porn, but I'll settle for PG-13". Not cool.

uhhh skiing isnt modeling, sure you can look like a fool if you wear some funny suit but its for skills and style cloths are an important factor but fashion shows like seriously what will they wear lerperd skin jackets fur pants?

I would like to award this thread the title of "Funniest thing to hit Newschoolers since Alpentalik".

It's not really "skiing" selling out, I'd hardly call this a ski company, but it's funnier being true... I wonder if they'll set up the runway like a halfpipe deck?
