Let me see...where should i start. How about from the beginning?
When i got to fernie last year it hadn't snowed in a 2 weeks. Basically everyone was riding park and pipe. 2 days later, it started to snow...and snow, and snow. It didn't stop for more then 2 weeks. We'd get up, check the snow report, if less then 20cms fell, we'd go back to bed and hit a soft park in the afternoon. Needless to say, it was almost always more then 20cms. It was sick. The mountain is crazy. Tonnes of sweet inbounds stuff with sick backcountry just a quick hike away. The park isn't crazy. Hopefully this year they'll make it better. They had 3 tables that changed every once and a while, the park guy is always there, and is always open to suggestion. I asked him to make a steeper lip on one jump and make it about 7 or 8 feet longer. The next day i had my wish. It was cool until it turned out only me and like 4 other guys weren't getting tossed into the stratospear and landing hard on the deck..the next day it went back to how it was before. But they're still willing to make you happy. The park is groomed nightly. They have box rail...lots of fun, they are very creative with them. The pipe is ok, it's a regular pipe and a lot of the time there's 1 bad wall.
Basically..the pluses are the snow, the terrain, and having the park guy as a friend.
The minus' are only 3 tables, box rails (no real rails) and the pipe.
Hope fully those will change. At the end of last year they were talking about building a whisler style super park, and they had a terrain park survey on their web site for a long time.
Oh..and major plus...is the town of fernie. Totally laid back. It's a wicked atmosphere there.
