Fernie Myths - true or false?

Are any of the negative myths of Fernie true?

1. They close the alpine area + bowls after big dumps for days to keep it fresh for the weekend crowd from Calgary.

2. It rains in February

3.cliff areas are marked out-of-bounds

1. they close the bowls for avy control... they're massive bowls with massive exposure above them so they need to be controlled before they can open to public.

2. weather happens everywhere.

3. yeah...

jeff nailed it except for #3. there are plenty or good hits that are in bounds and usually open or are going to be.

examples: knot chutes, big bang, currie headwall, concussion

yeah, fuck Fernie. when I was there, I found that a lot of the cliffs had "cliff" signs right at the good take off spot. Not to mention their lack of cliffs overall. I have only found one area that resembles a pillow line inbounds at Fernie. Combine that with RCR's skewed ideas on how to run ski resorts and that place is lacking in the win department.

that being said - I guess I have to finally ski there again at some point this winter to check out the new chair... not going to pay for a ticket though, fuck that shit.

Well its no myth that Fernie doesn't have as much cliffs as other mountains in the Koots. But it's not like they advertise that they have a mountain just teaming with cliffs ready for you to hit dude. They advertise the resort as a place for everyone to ski. As for the cliff signs on top of take-offs... huh? they are often orange circles on trees?? Find a new line, theres lots..
Can't change the terrain, but give it time and I think the attitude will change.
I spose Im spoilt too. live in Fernie, and I bought a pass to Revy yesterday. Maybe Whistler later this week. This winter is open!

Super step down was removed. FAR can change the terrain apparently. Im a little bit more upset now. Slightly....

this made me laugh. stupid RCR.

I'd be nice to one day see the Lizard Headwall as "inbounds with restrictions" or something along the lines of what Sunshine does... then maybe I'll start to give them my money again.

the one feature for kids to scare themselves on in the freeski comp on Big Bang... wow. but i hear the the freeski comps are no longer. good for you RCR!

I hear the powder gets tracked out quickly and the skiing is all for intermediates, and all the cliffs have bad landings and usually everything is closed. Plus it is like $100 for a lift ticket. I would avoid it and go to kicking horse or whistler instead. Poured rain January 15th and 16th while I was there last year. Such shit weather and snow.
