I think it is fair to say that there are lots of social issues in the US that may make it difficult for minorities to get on their feet, and fully shed racism.

That being said, if there is some hoodrat (white or black) who just robbed a convenience store, I can understand a cop being scared, not knowing that they are unarmed, and not taking chances.

As for the balck/white ratio of the police force, why would a black guy choose to be a cop if he didn't believe in the cops. There may just be more white dudes who want to be cops and are fit for the job. I don't believe that we've heard the full story on that.

The militarization of the police force I find alarming. It is absurd that local police need that kind of weaponry to control crowds, but nearly more absurd that the black community ended up looting and rioting trying to say "we're not all bad, black hoodlums."

Really I can't side with anyone. Keep your nose clean if you don't want trouble - cops and protesters. Don't retaliate against the police because they have the authority. Beat the system by playing the game and changing it.

Well of course you need to react appropriately, but it blows my mind that there is a culture there that warrants that kind of militarization for such a relatively small urban centre's police force, rather than leaving it to the military or a police force with a broader jurisdiction.

Which is honestly even more of reason as to why the militarization of the police is messed up. Why must they need that equipment, for when things get out of hand and it becomes necessary? Well thats what the national guard is for. Its a waist of tax dollars, like most things are so hip hip hooray our generation is gonna be fucked from all the debt accruing! A large of chunk of its for social security as well yet social security wont exists by the time where all eligible to receive our long lost benefits.

When the police get a little extra money in their budget they buy toys. They are normal people. Being normal people makes it even more weird when they have the police vs citizen mentality. They forget they were sworn in to protect and serve the people. They are acting as if they are the government's private militia. They think they have a get out of jail free card, and they do not. I hope they throw the book at every cop who is out of line to prove a point. That is very unlikely since they have each others backs.

I cant remember exactly but didnt someone say all these military weapons/vehicles were leftovers from the military and are available to police forces for the cost of shipping? If so then theyre not even spending a lot of money on this stuff because the govt is basically giving it away

What is your evidence for this? Are we taking the word of a random caller to a radio show as absolute fact? Even if it does turn out to be true, none of this defends the fact that in the United States you have the right to a trial and are innocent until proven guilty. The police do not have the ability to be your judge and executioner, no matter how much you want that to be the case. How can you seriously look at this situation and think that everything that has happened is fine? The arrests and suppression of journalists? The tear gassing of peaceful protesters and media?

Also, If the officer was truly "afraid for his life," he should have never gotten out of his car and confronted the men alone. He should have called for backup and waited for them to arrive and then made an arrest. He wasn't even sure if they were the suspects from the robbery in the first place.
 
people love to only look at the victims side of the story... im not taking sides but the kid robbed a store and attempted to attack a cop didnt he... 9 times out of 10 a cop will shoot if being attacked

Sources? I'm trying to keep my opinion pretty neutral until more details come out and so far I haven't heard much about the officer. Definitely not anything about injuries he received.

Coroners report is out. Independent, but from one of the best pathologists around.

I am waiting for the official report as well before I make a decision. Too much hearsay currently. You have to imagine the police car had a video camera that has at minimum audio.

I'm not just talking about the witnesses friend. There were multiple people that saw it go down. Yes they were black so obviously their credibility is in check (which is sad), but stop acting like what "your" witness saw is the only witness to what happened. Cmon Frenchy try to be unbiased.

Yeah it was from the guy from NY if I'm not mistaken. The family hired him to to a separate autopsy. But he is not the official reporter and even he said there is much up in the air. I want to hear the official report and compare it to what he said.

Yet, we're still fighting a war (if you want to call it that) 1000s of miles away... We have not learned. So yeah, it might as well be 1970.

The National Guard is a cute way of saying the army. We don't need the army to control American civilians in this case.

However, the military is great in natural disasters.

The war mentality isn't much different than 44 years ago. Suit a man up in some fatigues with a gun and a helmet and he's ready for war mentally. It becomes the army vs civilians. Fuck that shit. Bringing assault rifles to the park for a play date.

3) don't have MBE clauses in business contracts (certain number of non-white-people owned businesses needed to be hired)

4) don't receive help from "minority homeownership initiatives"

5) can't form societies that our based around our skin color (NCAAP, UNCF, all of these mentioned here http://www.diversitybestpractices.com/news-articles/20-african-american-organizations-you-need-know)

6) are allowed to be called "Crackers, Gringos, Honkys, etc" (but if a white man says n***er he loses his sports franchise, without legal cause)

All the above are racist, they use race to divide, every last one of them.

Equality does not mean one groups gets more, it means you get equal, and right now it would seem that minority > white.

Dude robbed a gas station with a weapon, who cares if he's white, black, Hispanic, Asian or fucking purple, it's karma at it's finest. I get some cops are pigs and this one might of fucked up a bit (who knows) but this kid was going to either end up dead or in jail. It's sad the kid died but I don't think this calls for riot.

If you say it has to do with family issues, or issues where they grow up, or influence of inner city gangs and drug trade, look no further than the parents. Parents set their kids up for this "having it harder", and last time i checked genetics, you can only have kids that are the same race as the parents. This doesn't matter what you skin color is. Parents set their child's environment for them.

So what you saying by giving "minorities" (I hate this word, we are all humans) all this handouts is that they are not good enough, that they are lesser than the "white people." You are continuing this cycle that says they are different. I am responsible for my well-being, i am a human, all humans should be responsible for their own well being.

No. It's not many generations ago when they were sales, and even less when they were lesser citizens. The goal is to get the people with the bad parents educated, so they can have better lives. In return they will become better parents. Yes, it is their parents fault, you're right. But, how is that going to change? We're lucky to be born into white middle class family's (I'm assuming you're the same) and we can't understand what it would be like to be born to shitbag parents. Lots of them get shitty hands in life and we won the lotto in relation.
