Fender Vrs. Gibson

gibson's better in some aspects, fender's better in other ways. it all depending on what sound the guitarist wants. anyone who says otherwise is a fool.

Fenders have a more melodious tone, but Gibson have a faster more distinct sound. Clapton and Gilmour played Fender, Page played Gibson, Hendrix was on a Fender. Its all good. Its not the guitar, its the player.

Actually Hendrix played the Gibson Flying V sometimes. But majority of the time he played his Fender strat restrung.

I prefer Gibson/Epiphone because of there sound, and the guitars look much better than a Fender. But anyone like Esp guitars? There sick, I'm buy my next guitar from an Esp series.

PRS is (In my humble opinion) beyond both at straight up d craftsmanship but you can't emulate the sound of a true Tele.

its all personal sound preferences. i prefer the sound of fender electrics but i think gibson acoustics are far better quality then fender acoustics. but that doesnt mean a certain fender acoustic couldnt sound better to someone.

gibson and fender make terrible acoustics in my opinion. i have an old fender acoustic thats decent but nothing special. martin, dean, takamine and alvarez dominate the acoustic market.

as for the gibson/fender argument. gibson does offer hollow body electrics, which make the sound sooooo rich. the epiphone dot is one of those guitars thats in a league of its own, but just like everyone else has said, its the player, not the guitar.

Fenders have a brighter sharper sound because of the single coil pickups. Gibsons have a more mellow and softer sound due to the humbuckers. Both companies make awesome guitars but Gibson is often viewed in a better light because they dont offer crap guitars. Fender has everything from a $100 starter guitar to a 4 grand strat. Fender probably gets more business that way but also more criticism comes from their cheap guitars. Gibson only offers there best model with the lowest prices probably at $700 making people view gibson as high quality. Gibsons also have the throughbody neck design which I personally like better than the bolt ons from fender. Both companies started out around the same time and are pioneers in the electric guitar industry. They both make high end guitars and both have awesome guitarist play their instruments. I have a gibson nighthawk and love it to death.

Gibson is PERFECTION. Everything from the wood grain, to the sound has to be perfect. If ANYTHING is less then perfect, like wrong shade of colour, or wrong wood, it becomes an Epiphone. All Gibsons from any year were made to be the best guitars in the world.

Old Fender guitars are just as good as gibsons ( 1950-70), but new fenders are good, but not as great as Gibsons. The reason Fenders have such the good rep is because they are great in the studio. Plus the fact that the old Stratocasters are some of the rarest guitars in the world.

GIBSONS.. there so much better... but some of the old strats and tellys are pretty sweet.. have to hand it to fender for that

for me personally, with the majority of the sounds i play, gibson, (i have an epiphone zakk wylde)...but i can see fenders as other aspects...it depends on the guitarist...insane guitarists for both types... Gibson: BB King, Zakk wylde Fender: Eric Clapton, etc, etc

quit being a dum fucking ass. Why do you thing hendrix, clapton, mark knopfler, jeff beck, Yngwie Malmsteen, John Frusciante, and Eric Johnson(there are way more but these are just off the top of my head) played fenders. Because they can kickass. Fenders and Gibsons have completely different tones and you cant compare them. I own a gibson but have played many strats alike and can say that they are sick guitars with awesome tone.

ive never played anything other than a squier strat, and some silverstone that sounded like shit compared to my squier, so i dont know....but i like the way les pauls look

for some reason I think everyone was saying it was all about the guitar player :)

...fender, gibson...you know there are other less pricy and incredibly looking/sounding guitars, right? has anyone seen and played the yellow (not in production anymore) schecter c1 custom classic?

i would have to agree with most of you and say gibson over fender.. im on an esp right now but next guitar im pretty sure wil be a gibson

i would be interested to know if anyone has had any experience with a variax and specifically if it can mimic either a gibson or a fender well, and if that is the case why everyone isnt playing one.

fender telecaster. best sounding guitar on earth. period. but thats about all fender's got going for it.

There is no one best guitar/brand just as much as there is no one best guitar player. To each is his own.
