Female superunknown?

I think with the success of superunknown level 1 should start doing a female superunknown. it would obviously be smaller but it would be the first way for girls to get recognized outside of comps (which suck and are not for everybody) It would e sick to see what some more underground girls could do because i am tired of only seeing sarah and grete and the two or three others who made it. what say you?

i dont think superunknown right now is limited. A girl can enter and im sure if Berman is really stoked on her shit then she has the potential to win. Its not that her stuff has to be better than the guys, but she has to be capable of destroying the womens field and overall just impress berman just as the guys have to

The ifullrwasagirl.com thing is kind of like a female superunknown.  But then you have to go to Whistler beat Sarah and Grete if you want to win.

i think it would actually be even better for its purpose for girls, because the degree to which the girls that actually rip literally are super unknown is much higher.

the ullr contest looks a lot more like a beauty contest than a

legitimate push for women's skiing, i dont think they even have an

option of uploading any footy

No. There may have been a few girls who just posted photos of themselves standing around in their ski gear, but all the girls who made finals this year uploaded videos. And the judges were all girls, so I don't see why beauty would have anything to do with it.  There are videos of Kim Lamarre slaying a quad kink and Suz doing a huge lawn dart off A-frame (which is like a 60 foot cliff), you should check it out.

maybe a edit without any face shots. i love hot girls as much as the next guy but they have tv and magazines and all of american culture to show how hot they are. i want good skiing girls i dont need to see their face in the edits.

spend a day in whistler and you will see girls shredding who don't give a fuck about the scene or sponsorship. regularly sending cliffs and then slaying the park

I hate to tell you all this, but girls skiing is a fucking joke. Honestly ladies, step the fuck up you're acctually holding us back from getting to the olympics you're so damn terrible

Thats hardly motivational now, is it? Theres so many girls giving it their all to push the sport. Back off and give them credit for what they deserve.

Sick idea, I'd love to see something like that.

wow what a nearsighted comment bro. if anything you should be giving them props when you hear about or see a amazing female skier. all comments like that do is make people feel discouraged or nervous to do stuff.

The whole point of superunknown is to find someone that berman would want to film with and someone that will add to his films. To be honest I have never seen a performance from a girl that adds to a ski film. If a girl is good enough to stand out among men that should be the only way they should get into a movie. To be honest I don't see this happening, at least any time soon.

Yeah that Ullr competition was complete bullshit. Only a few photos of riding and of the lady. No video. So weak. Didn't like Sarah Burke or Kristi win it or something too? I remember it was absurd.

did you no read john symms blog on the women u.s open... a women superunknown would put everyone to sleep.  I would rather have the shits than watch chicks ski.

umm i dont mean to be a dick, but thats pretty much how girl sponsorships and the industry works for girls. I hate to say it, but its true, and everyday I see it more and more often. A superunknown for women would seriously have to be based on skill and nothing else, because then it would just be as pointless as the ullr thing.

Yeah. I'd be willing to bet that Berman and Level 1 would seriously consider any legit girl entry. To add to that, no where does it say it's FOR men skiers. So, pretty much, everyone who thinks this would be a good idea, girls included, has already subconsciously ruled out the fact that a girl wouldn't win. Interesting, huh?

Doesn't anyone else think it's incredibly sad that a girl can land on the podium at a legit pro event (North American Open) for halfpipe with this run?

Straight air, straight air, straight air, striaght air, alley oop, alley oop, 360

she was obviously going huge too considering most of the guys where barely managing to squeeze in their 4th hit.

Props to sarah for stepping it up in the last couple of years, Roz for her 9s and... sorry I can't think of anyone else, except for maybee kristi for complaining about the jumps being too big at NAO

That would be an awesome idea. Way to think equality in skiing. Level 1 should do it, and even if they don't, ladies, submit anyway.

dude have you seen ashley battersbys segment in enjoy? i thought it was pretty damn good i cant remember lots of specifics but she does a 450 or 630 disaster on a flat down, some pretty good urban, etc. she is definatly pushing the sport for the womans side of things

I think this would be a big help for some girls. I mean.. I was just watching the orage open and the girls were so dissapointing. I'm really saddened to say this because I really look up to these pros but I mean I know that there are girls out there that can do better. these girls need some exposure and this might just be the perfect opportunity. just look at durtschi at queens cup... and a bunch of other girls who showed up to that comp ripped way more than some of the pros.. So maybe they need this to get noticed.

having separate contests for guys and girls is equality? The way it works now is perfectly equal, girls and guys can enter and the best skiing wins. girls should definitely enter super unknown though I mean I"m sure if a girl had submitted an edit as good as any of the finalists this year they would've made finals...

thats definately a good idea. its frustrating sometimes to be the only girl i ever see in the park at home...at more than one mountain. gotta break through

female superunknown sounds like a great idea.

but idk if the turnout would be so great.

so i think if you a girl and you shred hard.

throw ur vid in with the other for next year and if you slay it and berman like you

you might get in

hahah or you can have a girls superunknown

w.e works

hahaha

equality is giving men and women equal chances at something. unfortunately the level of women's skiing isn't up to men's (although that's changing a little) so it wouldn't be totally fair to include men and women in the same competition. would it be fair to have mens and womens in the xgames combined?

i saw that and it was funny. me and my buddies got an on running joke (even before we read symms' rant) about girls skiing and how it never matters how good they are because they all suck, all that matters is how much fun theyre having. We would always say "look how much fun they're having" etc. But if you ever want it to be not like that then we are gonna need some outlets for girls besides comps and thats the whole reason i made this thread. i never said girls are as good as guys i only said they deserve to get recognized for something besides a competition. and even if you like comps (which i dont, i think skiing would do better if there were never another slopestyle again) you gotta admit it is a flawed way of judjing a persons style or skill. guys can make it with sick internet edits but right now comps are all girls got

Your right, but the winner of the super unknown gets a part in one of level 1's up coming films right? but you watch realtime u notice that there are no women.

this could be a reason y there is no femal super unknown.

but wait!........

you're an idiot, this guy acctually had a valid point, girls DO suck at skiing, you on the other hand just threw out random shit you made up about this guy you obviously know nothing about

i know girls arent as good as guys, no one is questioning that doesnt mean they suck and saying that doesnt help anyone get better, i was just pissed

That was last year. Grete won.  Last year it was based on how many votes you got, and people could vote every day.  So basically a couple girls got everyone they knew to vote for them everyday or guys voted for whoever they thought was the hottest or whatever, and yes, it was complete bullshit because the girls with the most votes had like no pictures of themselves skiing.  This year, there was no voting, just a panel of judges, so it's completely different.

I think it's a fine idea. Why are you guys calling on Berman to do it though? Just because he developed a successful amateur video contest doesn't mean it's now his job to promote Title IX in freestyle skiing.

If you guys believe in this idea, there's nothing stopping you from doing it yourselves. Obviously, you can't offer a segment in a movie to the winner the way that Berman can. However, with the push that's happening in women's skiing, a little planning and a few days of phone calls could line up a range of product sponsorships for the winner.
