Fell Asleep At The Wheel Today.

Today I kissed death and almost died. I was driving home from a day of skiing when I fell asleep at the wheel. I remember thinking about how tired I was and that I wished I would have bought a mountain dew then I fell asleep. I dont know if it was the turning of the wheel or what but I woke up in the left lane. Right as I woke I saw a car go for the shoulder. I veered back into my lane and both cars survived unscathed. I was probably only asleep for a second or 2 but it was one of the most scariest/ biggest addrenaline rushes/ stupidest things I have done.

It's not stupid on your part man, it happens. I have had it happen to me and I think anyone who has been driving for a while has had it happen to them.

It's very scary, and the worst part is that you really never see it coming.

Glad you and the other person are ok though.

ye thats happened to me before, Im like sooo tired and then my eyes close for like less than a second and whammy i swerve back almost hitting everything. Its crazy and it wakes you up for like a couple of minutes due to the adrenaline but you soon fall back into the lull of sleepyness

same feeling as when you fall asleep in class and jolt awake. i was probably only asleep for like half a second though.

of fuck i did that once on i-70. fucking worst moment of driving ever. so fucking scary. for colorado people, it was on the way up to the eisenhower tunnel, i could have gone off the right into death. fuck that sucked so bad

One night driving home from skiing the roads were super icy. I was so fucking tired and my friend was sleeping. I probably would have fallen asleep if the car wouldn't have been sliding around scaring the shit out of me every 20 minutes or so.

shit, when that happened to me, the best thing was to roll down the window and drive with my face out the window. it got me really cold, and i stayed way awake for the rest of the drive up.

i havent been driving long enough, but i did when i had my learners, i was going to a bike race, my dad was sleeping in the seet next to mee then i hit the rumble strips and holy fuckin i thought i was going to die. Me and my dad both woke up but i just said i drifted over a bit because there was something on the road

there have been a couple times that i have almost fell asleep. i turn the AC all the way up and turn up the music loud. and even though talking on the phone while you drive is stupid, i call someone and tell them whats up so we just talk for a few minutes till i get home.

Yeah I was driving to work the other day and I was getting that super droopyness type feeling and eyes slowly closin up. I was fearing that it might have gotten really bad. Plus it was rush hour traffic with a bunch of hockey fans trying to get to the game (which is where I work). So there are cars everywhere, and you need to be super alert! thankfully I was able to snap out of it though.

Happened to me one morning, twice. Got 2 hours of sleep the night before and was driving back home after a party and just thinkin how tired i was and how bad i needed to stay awake and before i knew it i was changin lanes and it scared the shit out of me, but it was still pretty early so there were not many cars thankfully, and then it happened on the same drive and i almost rear ended somebody. by then i was only a few minutes away from my house and i proceeded to go to sleep, very quickly.

i have a bad habit of doing that, to keep on driving when im actually falling asleep, but sometimes i cant take it anymore cause i will swerve all over the road and i will just pull over and sleep. sometimes i end up napping for 2 hrs...

but that never happened to me to be in the oncoming lane. good thing the car pulled off the road...

yea, you'd think getting the shit scared out of you would wake you up, but it doesn't. it only lasts for a few minutes which sucks. I try to wake the other people in my car up and turn up some music to keep awake.

i was once driving with my dad and he kept falling asleep so I made him go take a nap in a mcdonalds' parking lot... that day sucked ass.

I have also had multiple occasions where I fell asleep and woke up as my head hit the wheel... scary shit.

dude are you fucking retarded? whose part is it stupid on? the guy comming at him whose paying attention in the right lane.

fuck.

sure its stupid on his part (not trying to knock the guy making the thread). He is the one who drove in a state he shouldn't have. He is the one who fell asleep, HE is the one who drove off into the wrong lane. I dont see ANYONE else thats part could be stupid.

unfortunatly he just made a bad choice, everyone everyday makes bad choices. Fortunatly we can excape the outcome easily at times, other times we have harsh consequences to pay (in this case could have been death). Everything you do is a choice, so try to make positive ones.

i fell asleep for a couple seconds once driving home from skiing. i didnt veer off at all but i snapped back into it and thought what the fuck am i doing. I cranked the tunes and made myself hold my eyes open and not let myself even fucking blink.

i never drive when im woozy anymore, it scared the fucking shit outta me.

my sisters boyfriend died last year when he fell asleep while driving and ran into the trees.

shits fucked if you sleep behind the wheel.

my dad had a freind who fell asleep at the wheel, flew off a cliff, landed in a tree, and their car exploded, but the dude and his wife both survived

If you are ever that tired driving scream as loud as you can for 5 seconds, it seriously works.

yeah. hit a gas station, pull your shirt off and into a pillow, and take a breather. fuck. its scary to think so many of you have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Wow Kip thats scary

I find the best way to stay awake is start singing along with music or making up your own song, it helps heh.

Damn dude...

I know a kid who over rotated a back in the park and knocked himself out for something like 2 hours. He ended up with reoccurring seizures for like 2 months. I guess he was driving down the highway and had one and ended up 4 lanes over and a half mile down the road.

And this it why Kip shouldn't be allowed to drive. Just jokin man, glad you're alright, hit up the Mountain Dew and Redbull before the drive next time.

i was driving home from a xc race in madison, which is normally like a 4 hr drive, but it was snowing, and slippery as shit, so it took me like 6. i was so fried when i got home, i went to bed and slept for like 15 hours.

on the way home i start to get really tired after i stop talking to the other people im with, but if i keep talking ill stay awake.

Happened to me once...

Heading home on the 400 from a concert, Two Buddies were already asleep in the back seat, I had cruise control on and just slipped into sleep. Luckily the guy in shotgun reached over and kept the car going straight. He said I woke up about 10 mins later, he just kept us going and probably saved all our asses...

That happened to my dad one time, he was also coming back from a day of skiing. He was alone, and was dirving on the highway, and back then there was no divider on the highway like there is now. He he fell asleep, and it was a hilll so he roled down the hill and all the way on the other side of the rode, and totaled his car. He was wearing sunglasses, and when he crashed, the sunglasses made indents in between his eyebrows, so he has scars from them, they r pretty sweet. But he said when he was laying in the bed at the hospital, a cop came in and said "I'm sorry son, but i have to give you this ticket."

haha, with the people driving on the 400, youd think everyone is fucking sleeping. once while my dad was tired coming back down to oakville, some guy cut into us huge, basically he would have hit our front drivers side with his side, so, really, he was changing 2 lanes into us, and fast, and had i not pointed him out as being drunk for being all over the road about 15 seconds earlier to my dad, im not sure i would be sitting here with the ability to live.
