Feelings about forward mounting

in seriously considering remounting my bindings 2cm ahead of center, considering i spend like 70% of my time riding switch and love switch hits.

do you have your skis ahead of center? and how do you like it?

- open to all opinions

I've heard it actually works alright.

Even skiing forward isn't bad at all on groomers, but in the pow or chunder, it's a bit harder to float or hold a good edge.

I'd say try it.

I think landis was the one who said he like dhis forward.

hit him up, slandis is his ns name.

do it for the purposes that make it better.

switch riding

switch landing

more support when you land backseat

butters

easier nose grabs

easier tail grabs

Dont do it. My little brother just made a new pair of skis and when he got them mounted they did them like that by mistake. He said to carve you had to lean back really hard when riding regular. I thought they would ski switch great. But they dont. If you think about it when ur skiing switch u cant really lean backwards as much as you can lean fowards when skiing regular. If they are foward mounted there will be not much ski where most of ur weight will be.

thanks bro, you listed everythign good about them, i think imma try it just to see what its like, ive got another pair center mounted so if it all falls in, ive still got something to ride.

my buddy did it and he likes it. its better for grabs, i like center or just back myself. i would feel like i was cheating

For me Its not worth it cause I dont feel the benefits compared to the costs. I had a pair of old skis put past centre and I didnt like it personally. allthough didnt ski them for that many runs. Im a center type of guy.

I think Lydon goes past center all the time. ask him

NO WAY! not 2cm!! cuz that means 2 cms of the front. and 2 added to the back. its twice as much as you think. 1cm would still make a great deal of diff but i say do it. just no taht much

Some park specific skis have a recommended forward mount.

I think Dumont's ski is like that. If you're mounting a pure park ski...

then it could work!

so, ummm, here is the advice I have.

if you have new skis, youll chicken out, I did. Which is wierd, I generally just pick something and let it ride.

If you have a pair from last year, try ti out and see what happens.

ya since you are remounting, i'm assuming that they aren't new skis, you might not want to experiment with a forward mount on something new and expensive. also, it will be better if you have other skis to fall back on if you don't like the forward mount

Theres no reason to mount all mountain skis past center...that would be like mounting park skis at midsold.

foward mount is for park, and it works great. It doesn't fuck up the turning at all. My skis last year were 2 inches foward from dead center and I absolutely loved it.

I used by buddies skis who skis were mounted at +1.5 cm from center. They seemed to have much more control switch...

I had it done 2 years ago.... thought it was good, then last year i mounted my skis dead center again... then realized that was MUCH better than foward

Haha, yea man.

I had my T-Halls mounted 1cm forward, and just had my Ar6's mounted 2cm forward, and Im telling you, 2cm forward is the money spot.

I ski in Ontario too, and I had a chance to try them out at MSLM on sunday. Here's what I found:

-Carving regular was more responcive than on a centre mounted ski.

-Carving switch was amazing.

-Butters were easier

-Overall, more fun.

However, I didnt have a chance to try any tail grabs/nose grabs, as it was my frist day out and my 3's were still a little squirly.

If you have any other questions, PM me. Im glad to help

Some people suggested that I mount my new pipe cleaners +2. I'm too nervous because I've only skied on core center skis (I learned like that too), so they're going to be center also.

I do a great deal of skiing switch, so that would be great. But I instruct more than I ski switch, so I don't know how they'd work with pizza and "wedge christies" with +2.

The skis I'm on are 1cm ahead of center, it's not really a noticable difference from center, but they carve horribly and aren't particularly great in crud or anything but groomers. Whatever, skis are skis.
