Featured Member or member of the week

I was thinking earlier how it could be interesting if there was some kind of member of the week type thing. Not like a reward or prize or anything, but literally just have some member, randomly selected by some mod or someone, and have them answer a few questions about who they are. (how long they've been on ns, where they ski, etc etc)

I just thought it would be interesting to find out a little bit more about certain members than just what their profiles say. I don't know, it may be too complicated to do. Just an idea.
 
Like Nomensteven said...It already happened with member of the month...it was usually late and it died pretty quickly but was somewhat interesting for a while.
 
did rogge win it 3 times in less than a year or something rediculous like that? but yeah it died.
 
i would love to have that... and u can only be it once so everyone gets a turn if they're worthy of it
 
Yah...the only people who ever deserved winning were: orange, green, and red names. I think gbalkman won once too but he's awesome.
 
I know there was one of those on the bottom of the homepage not long ago. I was a member so it must not have been too long ago.
 
I think there was a few reasons, one of the big ones being that the member of the month was posted at the very bottom of the front page and that was the only recognition that they received. As a result 99% of people never even saw it or realized it was there.
 
yea i remember it, but it's gone. And i don't think they promoted it enough or people just didn't care.

either way, i just thought it might be cool and wanted to see what you all thought.
 
i dont think it should be random, i think it should be someone who overall helps the site. for instance, flashkick101 for dominating gear talk
 
well i don't mean random in the sense that they pick someone who just joined and has 4 posts, all of which are "pee in her butt"

Picking older members or people who have a prominent presence on here is more what i had in mind as well as people in the ski industry.
 
just pick someone who posts regularly enough to be reconized, not just some random kid.

also i call third.

i like the idea of randomly doing an interview with NS members. not necessarily the best behaved ones, or the famous ones. just regular members
 
yea that was the problem before. i dont know how to get around that whole issue since people will always be sucking off the mods for a chance to be featured on ns.
 
The main problem was having an effective way to nominate member of the month. It was always just left up to the mods to pick. We seemed to run out of ideas fast and it didn't last too long even though we did try to keep it going for a while.
 
what if rather than nominating, there was just a list of questions for the person to answer, then you send it to a whole bunch of members. They all respond, and suddenly you've got member of the week covered for a year. Then you post them, 1 by 1, then when you start running out, send out the list to more people and so on.

i don't think it should be like a nomination or reward, i think it should be available for everyone. Even if it's only like a sticky in a thread that gets deleted/reposted every week with the new member's answers. Not like some giant thing on the homepage, because then people would probably get violent trying to get on the homepage.
 
i was thinking somthing similar. make a list of say 20 questions. some basic ons (where you live/ski, intrest some stuff like that) and then some questions that could lead to some pretty funny awnsers. every week (month?) the choosen member gets a pm with the questionare, fill it out and send it back to the mod they got it from to be posted to the homepage or wherever it may be.
