when i was about 13 years old i was laying down on my grandparents house watching the news, and they started to talk about all the chemical war fair shit, i can still remeber that, i was scared. And even today when they talk bout osme of this shit its like fuck off, people still gota live

 
I just hate how the news always has something that you need to be scared about, like 'your toaster, what you dont know may KILL you!' or how at the airports they are all sooooo freaked out, and that they get comfort from a security system that doesnt even work.

yes, fear is like fire, but the flame is delicate. Sometimes it consumes you to the point of staring at it untill it fades. Sometimes it is weak and you can see through the flame and control it. And the after effects are always temporary, being smoke. But keep in mind you are always afraid and brave. There is a balance betwen the two. When you obtain the balance you create a new level of possibility. When you become being you create your own reality.

i assume this post is based mostly on the media's role in instilling fear within america. and i agree, no one can deny the distortion that they openly create, afterall 'what bleeds leads.' in addition to that there is a strong relationship between the media and the coporations that support them via advertisement. take for example osteoporosis, something that clearly exists and is something that should be taken seriously. there have been a number of studies in the last 8 or so years in relation to concerns over osteoperosis. however, who shoves the reminders down your throat? the dairy farmers of america. 3 glasses a day remember. there are just as many studies that suggest that the chemicals and bacteria in milk are consequently more harmful than beneficial. whether you believe that milk is healthy or not, you cannot deny the fact that dairy farmers advertise fully knowing that they will profit heavily from suggesting that their product will save anyone from osteoperosis. in another example, take a great majority of the cleaning products you can find in any grocery store. we have all seen the endless number of news segments supporting the regular use of clorox this and that, mildew scum cleaners, wipes, sprays, etc. i do not know the exact date that human beings domesticated chickens, i would probably estimate somewhere in the late neolithic age, perhaps the bronze age? in any case human beings have eaten poultry for thousands upon thousands of years. no doubt an enormous number of people have died from salmonella (i can't be bothered with the actual correct spelling) - assuming that salmonella came into existence at least by the same time that chickens were domesticated. in any case an enormously higher majority of people have survived eons of chicken breasts, legs and thighs. does salmonella exist? yes it does. do people catch it and die from it? yes they do, but they are an infantescimal number in comparison to those that eat chicken and do not. sanitation products do wipe out a majority of opportunities to contract microorganisms, however they are just not that necessary. i live with 4 girls, once some chicken juice somehow got out of my packaged chicken breasts and spilled in the fridge. they fuckin flipped their shit. it was almost 5 months ago and i still hear crap about it. all of them are firmly convinced that i am going to die of salmonella. yet my mother never used any of that clorox shit in all the 21 years that i have been alive and neither me nor my entire family have ever gotten salmonella. my point is, most people don't question the barrage of media supported product advertisments on television. ask anyone in advertisment what you need to know best to be successful (in advetising) and they will quickly tell you, 'being able to convince the person that they need your product - even if they have no use for it.' most of you question the legitimacy of products like ab crunchers and extenze pills that are advertised in the informercials that plague late night television. why aren't the commercials advertised during daytime and in primetime held to the same standards. just because the product markets and the corporations that support them are firmly established, does not mean that there is a neccessity for them. i dunno, just think about. we don't keep antibacterial soap next to our sinks and i would bet my two balls that i don't get sick any more often than the next sucker.

I remember going to flordia when i was in grade 6 with my family and a friends family. The thing that i remember most about that trip to this date was the news brodcast, it scared the hell out of me. The showed about 15 murder stories, some sports and some weather... I could not sleep because i was afraid someone was going to break into my hotel room and kill me. Its not because i had never watched the news befor, i watched it every night with my family at home in Ottawa. But in Canada it seems that they dont put nearly as much atention on Murder. I realize that canada has lower murder rates than the states, but even so, the news stations dont put as much emphisis murders that happen, that is if they brodcast them at all.

Now, i know that everyone is always living in fear of somthing or another.. but it seems to me like in the U.S.A. people go out of their way to create fear to feed to the people.

i remeber wen i was like 5 i saw a story on the news about a lady who found a condom in her apple pie that she bought....at the time i didn't kno wat that was... but the story was bout 1/2 hour long and i was afraid of finding shit in apple pies till the time i was about ten

 
I agree that fear controls everyone, but i disagree that its the fear relating to politics. Yes, i do care about politics, but if something happens that we cant control in another country, it really doesnt have anything to do with me. even with the draft, IF THERE EVER WILL BE ONE which i doubt, im not afraid of that because i would without question die for my country.

What i was going to add when i just saw the title of the thread was that, yes fear definatly controls me because 10 minutes ago i was crying my ass off because i am scared that my boyfriend is going to break up with me(long story, please dont call me a pussy or anything because 1, it wont effect me, and 2, you dont know the whole story.) And there are endless examples of how fear controls everyone, and i would go into everything more, but i have to go to work.

^fuck that dude. i doubt for even a second that you are free of fear. do you brush your teeth and shower daily? probably. do you really need to? definately not. why? because commercials tell you that if you have bad breath and even give off even the slightest trace of a body odor then you will be ostracized for life. don't think for a second that you aren't just as hypnotized by advertising.

Its not comercials that have set out those standards, thats what society actually feels. His Fear would then come from not being socially accepted.. not because he is going against some message a comercial has said.
