it was a book way before it was a movie. HST is the fucking man. watch out for the rum diarys.

i actualkly didnt realize that was johny depp until later. and wasnt ewon mcgregor in that too as the hitch hiker?

it was great when he sped up and led the cop for a whole before pulling over

A drunk person could handle their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. No one could be asked to handle this trip.

love the movie, but the book is better, but then that's usually the case when a book is turned into a movie. but in this case, the movie pretty much lived up to the book, which almost never happens.

'hey look guys! For a dollar you can get a free condom!'

- a friend when she saw the condom dispenser in the bathroom

'We could give him milk after filling his epipen with heroin and turn him into a drug addict'

- a guy thinking of ways to get revenge on someone who is deathly allergic to milk

^yes

anyone who has seen the movie and not read the book, read it. most people don't realize fear and loathing isn't about drugs.

anyway, hunter s. thompson is my favorite writer he is amazing. we have the same birthday he's exactly 50 years older than me. I am working on a letter I am going to send him pretty soon and for my birthday (july 18th) I just want him to reply.

but really, I think a lot of people on this site would appreciate his writing. he is incredibly intelligent and has the greatest style of writing.

and while we're quoting fear and loathing...

'Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. 5 years later? 6? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a main era - -the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle 60's was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant.'

'No sympathy for the Devil, keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride.'

I absolutely love the book. The movie is great, but the book is just brilliant. I have read it so many times and i still love it. I really should read more HST stuff.

fucked up movie. I just watched it today to see what all the talk was about.

definitely entertaining at parts, but i think i missed the overall meaning. also got a little annoying with the tripping out and whatnot but worth a watch.

How do you expect a man who blew his head off to reply?

My fav writer too, Hell's Angles is also an awsome book. “Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ape?” RIPHST

I cant believe people actually respect that movie. It is about a gonzo reporter that gets high and does NOTHING. he just wanders around. The whole point of the movie and book was to tell people that sobrity is a choice and see how far it got him. I saw him a few times at a bar in aspen this guy is a waste of space and did nothing for society. If you like his book you are fucking retarded.

You people need to watch "Where the Buffalo Roam", the FIRST Hunter S Thompson movie. ANd it stars Bill Murray as Thompson. WAY better the F & L in Vegas.

ahem....

yeah, personally i thought it was really overrated. I actually stopped it a few times, ate lunch and took a shower and stuff. i think it would be more interesting to really give some drug atticts those drugs and see what it does to them.

one of my favourite movies of all time, havent read the book tho... but i assume the bookis better than the movie, cause thats usually how it goes... the movies always leave out some shit that the book has.. but yah great movie, another great movie is full metal jacket, its one of those messed up movies.. aswell as a clockwork orange.. or any stanley kubrik film

good luck on getting a reply, he died a few years back, i think it was an od or something, but johnny depp had his ashes sent up in fireworks.

but yeah f and l is a great book, the movie is really amazing too, it captures the message from the book.

and the movie isnt based solely on drugs, biut most people wont look deeper than that and think that theyre watching a stoner flick. its about these two guys who lived through the sixties and now its all over and they find them selves wandering around with no idea what to do.

they go to las vegas to find the american dream
