FCE 3.5 Importing Question?!?

So i've been raised a PC kid. I've always edited my videos through Adobe Premier and when i imported clips into Premier it would automaticly break down my footage into clips for me (everytime the footage stopped on the tape it would create a new clip) ....which was super helpful.

I just recently bought a macbook and therefore switched over to Final Cut Express. It seems to be an alright program, but every time i go to import footy it imports it all as one big ol clip....and then i have to separate it later. Not a fan of that.

Is there any way/setting to get around this?

If not, anyone have some efficient ways to brake down lage quanities of footy into separate clips?

I use final cut pro and the uploading sucks with it. I usually just upload with imovie and then import that in to FCP.
