FBI seizes underground drug market Silk Road

you have the fucking story wrong anyway you clown. he didn't use his real name on the darkweb.

he used username that he also used on the clearnet which had his email address attached to it.

thats the real story so please stop saying "he used his real name on the deep web" stfu you're still wrong. I'm done talking to you go look the story up and get your facts straight.

they were able to link a darkweb username to the clearnet and took his email address from there. thats a little different than using your real name.

He also had fake ID's and Passports sent to his home which were intercepted and thats when the feds began to look into him.

I was actually agreeing with you earlier in the thread.... But are you honestly bragging about doing drugs?

Weed, ok. But really? Nobody cares you're a druggie.

To ski gabber I go.

The United States Government developed TOR. You dont think they would know how to seize it?

Everyone thinks that nerds will prevail and more and more sites will come due to this but they are wrong.

People used TOR because it was the best Onion Router. Yes there will be more to come but nothing will compare to what the government did originally.

I think this is the first step for the government. I think the deep internet will now be monitored more than ever.

Incorrect. I forget the source, but I saw an article about the security of Tor itself and the gist of it was that we are in an era where security is so secure that the only thing that will ruin this security is user error itself. The only reason DPR was caught was his own stupidity, not because of some sort of genius cracking by the DEA.

The deep web certainly will be monitored more than ever, but as long as one keeps their real life identity and their online Tor presence seperate, they have nothing to fear.

Read the abstract, it was confusing, didn't even touch the rest of that but that document and the idea behind bitcoins is super interesting

I'm not intelligent?

I'm not saying there aren't plenty of posts I've made on this site where you could make that argument but using this?

If you weren't completely clueless you'd realize that HEROIN is fucking everywhere. It's not hard to find and if you're addicted to it you probably have a decent source.

And I like how you post at the end as if I know nothing about it. Jesus kid, it's probably time to stop internetting.

I bet you read about it once on erowid. You're so darn knowledgeable brah. Keep posting, I'll be sure to take notes :)

TOR will definitely be monitored, but the fact that your connection pings around hundreds of TOR relays randomly across the world makes it almost impossible to be traced if you're doing it correctly.

I'm not advocating drugs, I just disagree with the government in many areas.

Made $650 in the past week from the silk road shutting down. BTC prices dropped to around $179 and sold them yesterday for $211.

Gato regarding the tax evasion thing he just received bitcoins if he doesn't "cash out" into "real" fiat money they can't tax it in the first place. They also can't seize his coins he's stashed, if he set it up right (this would be an area where I'd expect this guy to REALLY know what he's doing) they will NEVER be able to get his coins.

If you have that kind of money that's the point where you just move. What's the point of living somewhere a gov like ours if you have the money to go anywhere.

Tor is extremely safe. The way you get burned is by revealing information about yourself like Ulrich did.

was it a genius idea? maybe, an argument could be made for either side. Was it implemented in the way a genius would have? No. If he was such a genius he wouldn't have been caught, and before you say "but he got caught because he took more risks before he knew how big it would be", i will say if he was such a bright mind, he would have foreseen it, or at least foreseen the possibility of it blowing up, and taken precautions from day 1. Obviously not a genius, but if you want you could probably get sent to the same prison hes in and blow him instead of trying to do it here.

Swim has some links that could help others looking to purchase items from the darknet now that SR is no longer. PM Swim if you'd like.

Your argument is invalid because what you're claiming is that someone who is a 'genius' is without fault or mistake

Was Albert Einstein's atomic bomb not a mistake for all of humanity? does that negate all his brilliance?

Hitler brought his country out of one of the greatest depressions the world has seen but he surely made mistakes such as attacking Russia and persecuting Jews... This does not defy the fact that he was extremely intelligent.

You're foolish and putrid to believe that just because one makes a mistake it negates all of his intelligence. Open your mind .

dude, there's nothing revolutionary about silk road. bitcoins? not silk road. tor? not silk road. online shopping? not silk road. drugs? not silk road.

seizing the opportunity to become the first store in a new marketplace, but then being put out of business because you didn't have a perfect business plan happens all the fucking time, and it isn't an act of genius.

hitler wasnt even militarily smart, he was just a great speaker. No land invasion on Britain? attacking Russia in the winter? And if by bringing Germany out of depression you really mean getting ass raped by the world then yeah he was fantastic. This just confirms you're one of the idiots of the world who idolizes anything revolutionary.

And no one is perfect, but a genius doesn't try to set up a highly illegal operation without being safe from day 1. Also einstein refused to actually work on the atomic project, so youre really a fucking idiot.

except for the part where he convinced the US to pursue nuclear arms. had it not been for his letter and meetings with roosevelt, history might have been entirely different. so while he may not have directly worked on the manhattan project, we do have him to thank for the atomic bomb.

yes, but all he did was make his work he had already done available to the scientists and military people working on it. He may have encouraged it, but it wasn't "his bomb". He didn't actively work on it, to our knowledge, as our friend zeus seems to think. The fact that you can form this thought shows you are in a level well above him.

His business plan was solid and made him millions. It's that he used the same username twice for the clearnet and darknet which would be bad if you're doing anything illicit (like running the biggest(but not only)online drug marketplace).

I was curious and a quick search for two minutes and I found two other similar sites that copied his business plan.

His idea was genius; but, he did still do something stupid which ended up getting him caught.

Silk Road 2.0 is now up and running! Good job DEA, you took down a part of the online drug market for a little over a month!

I heard theres a secret cult on newschoolers where you can buy firearms, cocaine, mdma, and acid. It's code named "ladies men".

yea this thread really helped me change my mind with all of the persuasive arguments coming from 12 year olds.

I don't know anything about the new one but it seems to sketchy for me. The original was pretty cool but bit coins took a hit for being associated with this kind of thing

Apparently in january 2013 DPR hired an assassin to kill a silk road employee who had been stealing bitcoins from users. the assassin was actually an undercover FBI agent in a sting operation who sent DPR fake pictures to confirm the kill.
