favourite punk songs?

Even though I don't really listen to punk anymore....PLEASE don't call NFG, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Bowling for Soup, etc. PUNK. It is not even close to punk.

I am sure there is more more core stuff than I ever listened to, but when I listened to it I liked a lot of NOFX.

Bad Religion - I want to conquer the world

i like alt rock and sum indie but i cant get into that hardcore punk shit....its to weird w/ all the screamin and shit

theres an art to telling if something is punk or not, firstly it must sound like its recorded in their one room apartment with instument they bought at a pawn shop, secondly they have to be completely angry at life for the most part, or at least the government. And they cannot like girls, or its not punk/

bouncing souls, op ivy, green day, pennywise, suicide machines, bad religion and the clash are my personal favorites. punk is a very general term and it isn't all anger by any stretch. it's about having an opinion, respecting other opinions and doing whatever the hell you want. and not worrying about what everyone else is doing or saying. at least thats what it is to me. the attitude of punk for me translates right over to skiing...

there is more "real shit" and there is no one style of "real shit"

street punk is iffey. some bands are good, others are too much show, and that takes away from the "punk" aspect of it. Action, is the best street punk band out there for sure. check em out. they are on Punkcore records.

as for other "real shit" alot of the garage punk bands seem to carry on atleast a somewhat similar sound and attitude to some of the older punk bands. check out www.garagepunk.com

%100 not true about the girls thing. they just cant by whiney little bitches about it, but even that, I have seen (or rather heard) some songs done pretty decently and they are still very "punk songs" The Oblivians come to mind, and if you have not heard them, shame shame, look em up, listen to them if you can.

as for recording, there is something more punk about having an unpolished sound, however its not nessisary. and yes, most punk bands are not the greatest, musically, thats for sure, and so naturally, they generally dont have the most expensive instruments.

as for being angry, not true either. the Ramons (as little as I do listen to them) come to mind here. It just needs energy and a degree of lossness to the sound.

that I can think of, the best true punk band in my oppnion is The New Bomb Turks. they are funny, upbeat, not depressing, slightly mad at the government, but dont sing about it constantly by any means. some of their songs (on their latest and last full cd atleast) are about girls anre relationships, but (here is the important part) they dont cry about how they miss such and such girl or shit like that. no talk about "i wish she would come back to me" or any of that shit. They talk about how she stole from him or something, but its not in a way where they are looking for sympathy at all. its more like "ha ha what a bitch I hope she is dead in a gutter now"

They are simply hillarous and if you have seen them live, you would know they are flat out pricks. they do what they want, and at the same time are unique from other punk bands. they dont dress up at all.

I have seen punk bands live, but I write music about the way I feel about everything. So some of my songs are like angry, but its like punk people can't ever like fall in love, or be sad that someone left them.they have to like fuck a different chick all the time and want the girl to burn in hell. I think some of its funny stuff, and good, I like the Vandals quite a bit and I know they don't dress up at all.

My favs at the moment...

Leftover Crack - Nazi White Trash

Anti-Flag - The Press Corpse

Bad Religion - Delirium of Disorder

Descendents - Nothing With You

yes, there actually is. I like it all (almost) when it comes to punk, but there is so much out there that otherwise you would be saying that Minor Threat and The Clash souns similar, which they dont, at all.

but yeah i agree in some cases strictly categorizing bands is sensible and useful for relating one to another, but not now, this is a thread about punk music, not oi punk, not crust punk, not grind punk, not hardcore punk, just punk.
