hard question but i think if i had to pick one for skill, talent, taste, knowledge, and fuckin kickass shit...it would be knopfler

As a guitar player, I probably don't care for the legends of the art as much as I should. I don't really care for Zeppelin or the Grateful Dead, and for this reason I'm not so much as revering of Paige and Garcia as others would be (although I do acknoweldge their skill). But I would have to say I'm really into Clapton. He has a similar style of playing that I find that I tend to use. I think I'm never bored when I can just sit down and play the intro and solo to Layla.

NO ONE can compare to Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix they are so diverse and the most unique of guitarists. no person has ever successfully been as creative as them.

trey, duane, tom morello of corse....he's a bad ass, clapton, page, hendrix, ....its so hard to compare because it is all different styles of music..so they are all the best at the style they play...thats why they are so good at guitar is because they developed their own style of playing

I haven't heard much Frampton so I can't comment on that. Go listen to any live incident on 57th street to hear some beautiful guitar work. this is favorite, not best

Hendrix is the most amazing because he only released 3 albums, in the matter of less than 2 years, and those are his only studio recordings. It was just 3 albums that set him apart from the world, compared to all the other guitarists previously mentioned who all had well over that. No one can come close to the guitar sonic mastery that he possessed.

I think there are some really amazing guitar gods, but in the Olympus of the Guitar World, Hendrix is Zeus.
