hey so iv been looking to get some hellbents and iv run out of ideas for ski shops so i was thinking post a shop youv delt with before or just have great prices so hop on it!!!

competitive edge, they kind of sponsor me so i get shit for next to nothing, skis and bikes for so fucking cheap plus free stuff they sell in the store

Um yea you can.

If you ever wanna price match them, just call up Porters in Lake Tahoe and they will. Or Evo in Seattle cuz they will, but you shouldn't be choosing your "favorite ski shop" on just price.

And why the hell do people think that backcountry is a "shop" anyway? It's a huge fucking warehouse in the salt desert that is now owned by the same media conglomerate that owns QVC of all bullshit. Check your facts http://www.inc.com/news/briefs/200705/0508media.html Your hard earned dollars aren't going to anyone's pocket that has anything to with skiing let alone NEWSCHOOLers type of skiing. It's exactly the opposite of what we all should be supporting.

The same goes with like 80% or 90% of the others "shops" that I see on this site every now and then when this type of thread pops up. Well I finally decided to sign up for NS because I'm tired of peeps spewing BS about what shop is "core" or what you should support or whatever.

Does the shop your supporting really support our sport? Do they have a team? Who really owns the shop? Are they internet only or is there a REAL shop behind the website? Can you get your skis mounted there? Do they carry gay shit like patio furniture? Can you buy dope skate shoes there?

Do they carry other cool shit like boardshorts? Or are they more interested in selling "widgets" or "units" for profit and could care less if it's a twin tip ski or a heelys shoe? Is their young, NS type blood in either management or ownership of the shop itself or just like with backcountry / tramdock / sac are your dollars going to some fat, outta shape old dude who couldn't hit a rail to save his life?

The list gets pretty small when you start thinking about things besides just price and bigger questions like I just asked. So I submit just two that I think check off everything on the list when you do your homework:

http://www.porterstahoe.com/

http://www.porterstahoe.com/faq/why-shop-porters.asp

http://www.evogear.com/default.aspx

http://www.evogear.com/info/about.aspx

And I don't consider these tnext wo as checking everything off the list, but they're certainly dope for their own reasons and are clearly a part of the NS community and places you should support

http://d-structure.com/dstructure/pages/temp_home_usa.php

So whoever posts next, please think first and don't put proctorjones or al's ski barn or some of the other crap I see posted on here as a place you should give your hard earned money to

Hum. I had heard of them before but hadn't checked out. Cool that they carry Grenade shit and super props for supporting a team. Pretty light on gear to buy though? Are they waiting for more new stuff before they put it up online if you know (saw your logo so you must either work there or live in CB or know about them)?

not sure what they have in the other stores right now...

but we have the whole Volkl twintip lineup including kuros and chopsticks... and we are getting salomon suspects, and czars. K2 hellbents.. extremes.. kung fujas.. obsethed.. fischer addicts, rossi S4's, S5's, and soon to have S6's.

Damn it. What part of Economics 101 did some of you miss in school? If you give all your money to huge warehouse internet only stuff then you won't have a local shop to go hang out at and check out new shit in person and maybe watch a new vid and stuff. Those shops will be gone if you only buy from internet only places like backcountry. Great for supporting your local BC shop, but why not support someone else's "local shop" instead of a huge warehouse in the salt desert (like I said in my rant before) when you're shopping online?

Props again to Porters and Evo for having shops and both equal dope websites and teams and a shit ton of things to choose from.

All I'm saying is that buy from legit shops like those whenever possible so they can have a fighting chance against mega corps like backcountry

OK not to pick on proctorjones but I'll ask again why should NSers be supporting it when shopping online when there are other better choices that carry all brands (no Line at proctorjones) and have a team and have other cool shit to buy all year? It's great they've got a longtime boot fitter named Jeff that sounds like he's money and they support racing but seriously? I think a 5th grade honor student with a Mac and Dreamweaver could make a better website??

Am I missing something here?

I appriciate you protecting us smaller and "core" if you will shops, there seems to be some questions as to what Colorado FreeSkier is. We are a progressive big mtn, and park all twin shop.

We are located slope side at Crested Butte Mountain Resort

We have the "Best Tune in the Butte" two years running

We sponsor a pro and am team

We ski the skis you buy before you buy them so we can tell you if they are right for you

We ski for ourselves, with our friends and that is how we spend our days off

We ski during our work day, "lunch on the lift" to talk to people on the lift and to be able to tell our customers how the snow is and what wax to use

We don't put product on our website before we get it so our local followers have first shot at getting that gear, not someone who preordered it in JUNE

We carry great companies that are dedicated to progressing our sport and we will do everything we can to progress this sport

We don't carry boots because we have a great boot fitter right next to us that we send all our business and go to, we are not trying to do something we can't

If you call the shop you have a 50% chance you will be talking to an owner, if we aren't here we are out skiing

If you support companies that truly support skiing and it's progress chances are that you using a company that we carry

Thank you to all who do support the smaller shops that have all these things, and to those that look after our sport not just try to save $20 on your order by going through a company that has no idea what they are selling, really what is $20

Thank NS for all your support and for siting through this to learn about what Colorado FreeSkier is and what skiing means to us
