Favorite guitarist?

lindsay buckinhgam of fleetwood mac.

so underrated.

skip to 3:30 for the epic bass line into the solo. Insane. no pick either.

Also he can still more than hold his own as an old man now. at around4 minutes onward.

Mark Knopfler

Though I don't really listen to Dire Straits I still think he's very very talented.

However John Butler blows my mind

I have a long list, mainly obvious names who other people will say.

So here's my number one. Probably not the best ever technically or anything, but Dream Theater are one of my favourite bands so I'll have to give the shout to John Petrucci.

Solo starts at 4:10, then Jordan Rudess joins for an awesome keyboard/guitar solo. Then it goes back to guitars.

Second shout: Joe Bonamassa. He has a superb understanding of what a song needs. I fucking hate people wearing suits on stage though...

solo at a bit past 2 minutes.

I'm special and managed to copy the same link twice.

Solo just past 2 minutes, again.

The fact that Butler is doing that on a 12 string is insane, but my favourite fingerstyle guitar player is Antoine Dufour. I'm not sure I've heard anyone whose playing is as clean and clear.

(One of the best covers I've ever heard)

Michael Paget of bullet for my valentine plays dope guitar, one of my favorites. The guitar in tears dont fall is incredible.

Gabriel Garcia of black tide is amazing in warriors of time.

I've become a bigger fan of joe Newman from alt-J recently. I'm a fan of finger picking and he does that a lot so it's more my style than most rock music

John Frusciante

this

he's so creative, and he thinks about music in such a unique and original way. he is easily my favorite guitarist and musician. all of his work is pure genius in my opinion

The original axe ripper, Django Reinhardt. Check out his left hand; the last two fingers got fused together as a result of horrible burns he got in a caravan fire when he was a kid. As a result, he had to learn a ton of alternate fingerings and came back and tore it up harder than ever, with one less finger than everyone else.

Obviously everyone else in this thread slays, but Django is the granddaddy of modern guitar slayage.

I think Stevie Ray Vaughn and Pat Metheny also deserve places in this thread.

Also, even though I dont love all his music- John Mayer is a gifted motherfucking guitar player.

even Eric Clapton called him a master.

He's insanely good. I heard he's been playing in a blues band recently. Gonna go see him at some point.

Guy shreds the guitar

I would go see him just for his Hendrix covers.

A lot of my favorites have been mentioned but you can't forget Shakey. The dude is a force of nature. just see him live and you will know.

Robbie Robertson.

The guy holds his own against Clapton during the Last Waltz

The night they drove old dixie down is one of my favorite songs. Always wanted to learn it on piano. I just want somebody to teach me that one song.

Fuck that's a great song. The night or night after levon died I saw the heavy pets and dopapod in noho mass. The guitarist from dopapod came out and did the night they drove old dixie down solo for the first encore. Really intense.

Wish I had made the ramble when moe. played in 2010. Couldn't even buy a ticket, not surprised.

Luckily got to see him one last time at moe.down 2011. Ended with the weight. Bobby sang a verse, levon sang a verse, then everyone sang. I think there was a light rain and it was just magical.

Huge tangent and unrelated to guitar but that's where your post led me.

Jimmy page. His work with Zeppelin is almost untouched. Definitely one of the most versatile guitarists (listen to bron-yr-aur stomp then rock n roll to see the differences)

Man. Where to start. Steve vai. Frank Zappa. Ritche Blackmore Randy Rhodes. Jerry Garcia. Yngwie malmsten. Joe satriani. Jimmi page and Hendrix. Tony iommi john furshante Stevie van. Greg alman. There are a ton of rippers out there
