Fatypus Skis 2010-2011

Fatypus didn't have new models at SIA, so I emailed them for information on next year's line, and I'm stoked at what I found out.

Fat-ypus D-Sender
"Next years 184 d-sender will have a new early rise design that give it similar skiing characteristics to the 194 length with full rocker. We have given the 184 signifigant early rise in both the tip and tail and removed some of the camber underfoot. It ends up being a quicker turning, super pow floating ski now, that still holds an excellent edge. (Also) The flex pattern will remain the same (compared to the current 184 D-Sender)." -Jared Mazlish (Fatypus' Owner)

That sounds like my daily driver for next year.

Anyone else know anything about Fatypus' 2010-2011 line?

I just emailed Jared again about other major ski changes, and he said "the only other ski design changed for next season will be the women's E-motion which, like the d-sender, will have early rise in both the tip and tail".
So most of next year's going to be the same.

everything for next season is gonna be the same for the most part, buut there will be a rockered park/all mountain ski in the making as well..

Fatypus' new line is up for pre-order.

The graphics are pretty sick. I know a pair of 184 D-Senders are going to be bought.

more or less I would say yes

sorry, but i could really care less about a womans backcountry ski.

Next year's 184 D-Sender looked really awesome with its "early rise", and to discover just how much of it there was ,and how that differed from the 194's "rocker", I sent Jared, Fatypus' owner, an email.
Here is what he had to say. "The 184 d-sender has 6.5 cm's of early rise in the tip and 5cm's in the tail. It is different from the 194 with rocker mainly in the nose of the ski. The early rise in the 184 only goes 6 inches (about 15.24cm) into the ski before there is edge contact created with the snow, but the rocker in the front of the 194 goes 14 inches (about 35.56cm) in."Personally, I'm super stoked. That's for sure going to be my daily driver for next season.

And for anyone interested in the V-Rock as it has been mentioned several times, the dimensions have been reposted to the site, and are 158/126/148, so identical to the I-Rock.
In my opinion, Fatypus has put out a pretty good lineup this year.

This a a bit of a chargier ski than most on NS, but they're so fun, here's the review.
I bought the D-Sender this year as my 1-ski quiver, and after two days skiing a multitude of conditions, I feel it's time for a review. In short: I love them.

My Stats-
5'9''
145lbs
Ski Aggressively and will be entering in a big mountain comp this year
I ski Crystal Mountain
Was on the 168cm Volkl Gotama last few seasons

184cm Fat-ypus D-Sender
144-112-130
8 lbs
25.0m Turn Radius
Mounted with Dynastar PXXXL 14 Binding
Has Moderate Tip and Tail Rocker

Groomed
The D-Sender held up very well on groomed runs, without tip or tail flap. It was very stable throughout, and I only felt somewhat of a speed limit on very icy slopes. It carves well, and gives the option of slarving as well.

Powder
I love the D-Sender in pow! There isn't really a speed limit, and it floats like a beast! Any type of turn is possible. Nuff said.

Heavy Powder
Yay I love Cascade Concrete! Not. However, in this tricky snow condition, the D-Sender powers through it well, better at higher speeds. With this ski, fast is the way to go.

Cliffs
The D-Sender descends cliffs like a boss. It's forgiving, so slight backseat (SLIGHT) landings don't kill you. But centered is better. So far I've stomped 20 feet without serious problems.

Crud
Again, the D-Sender does better faster, but can handle all of the beautiful crud Crystal Mountain has to offer with ease. This is where the D-Sender's rocker becomes very helpful, and I was really impressed.

Tricks
I wouldn't call this a freestyle ski by any means, but its a quite light ski, so 180s off little bumps is no problem. I've also experimented skiing switch, which the D-Sender does quite easily.

All in all this is an excellent charging ski, with a forgiving playful side. Compared to other skis i've tried, it's a blend of Blizzard's The Answer and Volkl's Katana, with a hint of the Atomic Blog's pop and playfulness. Quite the perfect combination. And the topsheet has a narwal. I really recommend it!
