Fat Skis on East Coast?

alright guys, who here lives on the east coast and rocks fat skis? i'm thinking of getting some for next year, but i've got no idea how they preform on hardpack/groomers/park. if you have anything, let me know the ski, ski length, your height and weight, what they suck in, what they're good in, and how they flex. thanks in advance for anyone who helps me out.

i live in vermont and I have Seth Pistols. Love them!!!! I'm going to get some Seth Vicious next year. I'm even thinking of getting some MadeN's instead but that may be overkill.

I have Liberty SB 180s and was in Colorado in December on all hard pack and Vermont last week. They have really stiff tails and pretty soft tips. They will chatter a lot at high speeds on hard pack, but once you learn to control them they're tons of fun. Really lively and stable in the park, too.

I ski Sunday River and i have vicious. Im 5'11"ish 150... mine are 179. I love them on everything except bumps... they're managable in bumps but id rather other skis. but the rip on hardpack and everything else you can throw at them. They're pretty decent in the park too.

good to hear that the vicious rips, i was leaning toward them anyway. any word on the mo'ships? thanks to all you guys for your help.

i just picked up some sprayer bc's for the east coast next season. solid 88mm waist. not too much but just the right waist

yeah i live in MA but i ski mostly in maine. the mo'ships seem close to the vicious (only 1cm less in tip/waist/tail). thanks for the help guys. i heard that the titan nines were badass. anyone else got any opinions?

yeah, but besides the titan's, anyone else have any opinions on any 06/07 fat skis for east coast stuff? i'm looking at the vicious in 179 or 189 if i'm feeling ballsy. i'm 5'10" and 155 pounds. i ski very aggressively. and if i went with 189's, i'd mount them further forward since i ski no powder. opinions?

ive skied the vicious too. theyre very very easy to ski. i skied the 169 and 179 and 135lbs. 169 sucked, 179 felt A LOT better. i was even thinking about trying a 189, but they didnt have any. if your using them for tight trees, park, and bumps and arent going to be skiing out west with them go 179 for sure. TGR( tetongravity.com/forums/) has a lot of good information on fat skis. much more so for skiing the whole mountain than here. if your more park oriented this is the place to be though.

Any ski over 110mm waist on east coast is a waist, theres no such thing as a powder day out here and most fat skis dont perform as well on groomers. Most people buy fat skis cause they're the "in" thing now. The fatter the cooler but whatever floats your boat. East coast skiing is either park, bumps, or trees. Theres really nothing else and fat skis dont really perform the best in those categories.

i havnt skied the vicous but i skied the ARV and they fukin rocked and i ski sugarbush. there was a guy on the Motherships at suagarbush this weekend and said the where sik

and a few patrollers ride maddens but id go with the vicous or the ARV's

honestly, if i ever see anything you post again, i will laugh because of the ludacris statement you just made.

you are the biggest dumbass on this site after that statement. Maybe it doesn't snow where you live, but with close to 300 inches at stowe and almost 400 at jay, i've skied in plenty of days with over a foot, several with over 2. Maybe you should move from where ever you live and open your damn eyes and get your head out of your ass you dumb piece of shit.

And honestly, don't eve nstart with me about snow quality, because its been some of the lightest snow we've had in a long time. You are now labeled as a dumbass. congrats.

I ride fat skis. once you go fat, you don't go back fo sho fo sho

now, do we really have to bring out the jay peak pics? i think so, so all you people who think theres no such thing as powder on the east coast shuts the fuck up. even crud, and slop is much more fun on fat skis. 2 things we get a lot of. also if you knew your way around place like stowe, jay, smuggs, mrg, killy, gore, whiteface, cannon, etc. you would easily be able to find some stashes. or better yet get out of the park and get into some bc.

I believe those are what we call face shots?correct me if I'm wrong.Fat skis in Colorado must be pointless also, because once again correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I checked Jay peak averages more than the majority of colorado mountains. 375" before the season is over. Must not have had 10+ powder days or anything at all. If you want to argue, I have many many facts to back it up. I believe you should be pipe down now.

fuckin exactly! christ if you're bitching about lack of powder days on the East Coast, suck a fat dick. you just ski at shitty mountains, that's all.

i would, provided i had more cash. i've been spotting deals everywhere and decided now was the time for new skis. thanks for the input from all who responded. and yes, the east coast does have powder days.

Yeah the only place I would recommend not riding on a extreme fat waist on the eastcoast is if you ski in Pa. I tried out some karma's and that was pushing it for me.

We don’t get powder in the Pocono’s very often, like never.

But I did demo the 2007 PE's and I actually enjoyed the ride. Im normally not a K2 guy but they felt better that I thought they would have. I tried them in a 179.

pffffffff, so there's a couple spots in the east where you can rip pow for maybe a month of the year. so what. and i was talking more specifically for ottawa here. some semi-pow runs after a nice dump, but not worthy of a pair of madens or prophets

WHoA...say we are talking about lower east coast such as the poconos...theres NO pow there...and theres way more pow days in colorado and out west compared to jay...what they get 20 tops??

i'm not talking 130mm waist (P130s). i'm talking like SV (97mm) and mo'ship (97mm). right now i ride 04/05 PE's, and those are 86mm in the waist. i don't know, they just feel a little skinny.

Are you a dumbass? Aspen, snowmass, buttermilk, and aspen highlands all average 300 inches or under. Jay averages 350+ inches a year. Do the math. And fat skis are just not for pow. Shows how much of a dumbass you really are to say though. Pow, chop, slop, crud, wind buff, crust, etc. Actually fat skis are better for a majority of conditions excluding ice, and bumps. Oh my god! Can't miss out on racing down a sheet of ice. And from what I recall 90% of eastern skiing is in new york, vermont, new hampshire, maine, and quebec. Oh yeah guys.. Vail( who gets some of the most snowfall in colorado) has 375 inches as of now exact same as jay. Maybe you guys should know what your talking about before you make some dumb ass comment. You're going to get proven wrong.

I bet you've never even skied a fat ski.

fat skis are money on the east coast...even here in PA its sooo much fun on a fat ski...if its super buttery its even better....when i mean fat for pa though i mean like a 90 waist

wow someone needs to chill out...you flame way to fast bro...but any way the snow is much different out there..so snowfall in inches doesnt exactly decide everything

He is a little quick to jump the gun, but claiming that the east coast can't get huge pow days is just ignorant.

You can have waist deep days at Jay, and 100mm skis plus would be delightful on those days, and alot of people do rock them all the time.

yeah dude. you're right. an inch doesnt equal an inch. my bad. powder can be found all over jay, stowe, or any backcountry in the east at any time, unless its a hot spell, or very early season. a pow day is not just a day when its snowing just so you know.

oh yeah bro, and theres many places in the east where you get enough or more than enough soft snow to justify fat skis. and im not flaming you. im just proving that the shit you said was completely untrue and ignorant bullshit. im not trying to get personal with anyone. if i was it woudlnt be over you thinking that fat skis are pointless on the east. and if they are why do you have some gotamas in PA?

depeirre was it you who reviewed the SV, titan 9, scratch BC, and another ski that i can't think of right now a few weeks ago? i think you said that the titan 9 was your favorite. i can't remember.

hitz, you are retarded. anathema, arent' you from ontario? neither of you really know what you are talking about obviously. IF you live at a shitty mountain, fine, but don't make dumbass generalizations please, because you sound retarded.

we were saying our east is like that...so chill...and i have gots cuz i go out west like once a year
