Fat skiis required?

im thinking of going out to jackson with some friends this winter, and i know its got some sick backcountry, but i dont have fat skiis, i have some STL's and would those work?

Of course they will work. Do you think people never skied powder before the advent of fat skis? The STL's may not be as good as a pair of Pistols or MoShips, but you can still ski them in powder fine.

it's not like you couldn't ski them just fine at jackson, but my bet is you'd have a LOT more fun with a bigger fatter ski, or at least something more stable than an stl. especially if it snows a lot while you're there. i doubt too many people drop into corbet's on their stl's but maybe i'm totally wrong

fat skis will make everthing more enjoyable and more fun but its deffinately possible on stl's. they are sick skis!

You definatly do it but STL's are a pretty park specific ski. If you can I would get a pair of fat skis, and use them on powder days to. But if moneys tight don't worry about it

well im from the mid-west so fatskiis arent a very good investment. can you rent fatskiis anywhere out there?

o yea man, I'm from NY and i go out west usually once a year. You'll notice a HUGE difference n the kind of skis all of the shops carry, im sure ther'll be somewhere you can rent/demo some fat skis.

in all seriousness.. how can you go that high on a tree without pooping

I dropped cliffs at Jackson on a pair of 140 Atomic GS skis when I was like 10....I think you can handle it with STLs.

my first season at alta I had 170 crossmax's. One of the skis was busted in half and glued back together and the tip didn't curve up so it would stick into shit all the time and I would die.

We pay our debt sometimes.
 
yeah it will be harder to float... but stls are pretty wide anyways are they not ? park skis are usually wider than regular skis anyways

plus its not like the stls have a deep snow sensor and you will get 10000 volts if you touch powder with them... just lean back a little
