Falling

So throughout my skiing experience (25 years) I have had some pretty crazy falls. Last season my right ski came off and I was thrown into a spin and backwards down a smaller sized yet very legit status cliff. I took a pretty good spill today as well. Which puts a lot of things into a different perspective for me and I am curious to get other opinions on this. I have never sustained any serious injuries in my life from skiing or any other activities and I always get the feeling someone is looking out for me.

Have you ever had a scary fall? What thoughts run through your head after an event like that?

Any thoughts or comments on this topic are appreciated

my gnarliest fall was a couple weeks ago. it was a pow day, im haulin ass and im gunna hit a catwalk and just get a mellow grab like japan or something. but my skis stick into the cat walk, i double eject, fly about forty feet while front flipping. i almost land on my head but my feet whip down and i do a full tomahawk. all that ran through my head was holy shit that was fucking fun.

summary:

double eject

frontflip

tomahawk

good times

Serious injuries suck, mostly the next day in particular. Or once cabin fever sets in after a few months.

An injury with a month recovery time to 80% - 100% is not really an injury. More of a frustration or a small set back. Like breaking a wrist/fingers (Obviously different if you need hardware installed to keep it together)

Im just glad I've got health insurance

Ive never been injured from a nasty fall but i did break my leg just turning wrong the first time I went (age 5) and last year I tore a ligament in my ankle which put me in and out of sports for 6 months.

Was out in Utah last year bombing honeycomb canyon on an icy day. Was going about 55 when I dipped over a headwall. In years past the slope had been flawless and level. But when I got over the headwall it was covered in inconsistent moguls and ice. Stopping wasn't an option at that point so I figured that I'd just absorb the moguls like a mogul skier. This worked for about 10 yards and I then commenced to dig my tips into a mogul. I exploded and began tumbling down the hill for about 50 feet. When I slowed down I just laid there thinking "am I about to die". I got up and saw the aftermath. There were craters in every place I had landed during my tumble. I was all alone and sat there in shock for about 10 minutes before my brother came by and asked what happened. I messed up my meniscus and couldn't ski for a couple days and had to take it easy for the rest of the trip. The worst part is that this happened on the first day of the trip.
