Falling on rails and getting all cut up

A few weeks ago, i fell on a rail and cut my leg pretty good. After years of falling on rails, my legs are scarred up pretty good. Do other skiers have the same issues? Does anybody wear shin guards or some other sort of thing to help, or I dunno.

dont think i've cut myself really from rails...i've cut myself more from my ski edges after falling on jumps then from rails...

i don't think i've ever cut my leg/shin on a rail. if you were doing a rollerblader grind, maybe you could

the only cuts i have on my legs from boxes are from my friend's home made one, it has sharp edges. and they're on the sides of my legs so shinguards wouldn't work for me

Bruised, but not cut... are you tearing through your pants a lot too with these injuries?

not on a rail.. .but i bit a hole through my lip when i took a pole to the face...

my boyfriend wears knee pads and swears by them...

bad bruises never actual blood oh wait one time i kinda scraped my upper leg sliding off a rail but that is the worst

yeah dude i fucked up my hand from a my edge hitting me, and my face....but never have i cut my legs on a rail....i do know a dude that cut his leg on the edge of a box tho

i have a scar on my left knee from the s rail at jay peak back in 2004 when i came off early and clipped the end with my knee cap

Tom Wallisch doesn't bruise if he falls on a rail, the rail bruises when tom wallisch falls on it.
Oh wait, Tom Wallisch doesn't fall on rails. Never mind

last year i got 7 stitched in my knee cuz i slammed it on a rail. didnt cut through my pants but i got a nasty bruise to go with it. the only explanation i can even come up with is that maybe i just hit it so hard it ripped open.

I did cork 270's to death for like an hour straight one day, wasn't my finest time, the next day my leg looked like a lick a color popsicle. I just bruise no cuts.

it has only happened once, i leaned back and slipped, it was a kink rail and my right shin jammed into the kink, my shin got cut up, my nerves got all messed up, now ti tingles whenever it touch it.

I had my car key in my pants pocket one time last winter and washed out on my side and it cut my thigh pretty badly, i'll never ride with keys again, just one of those things you dont think about until you fall on them

i don't know what kind of rails you're hitting and getting cut...? bruises a bunch, though. and i wouldn't advocate shin guards; i feel like its not "skiing", plus you might lose more in comfort than you gain in protection.

Only problem I have is cutting up my ski sides and pant legs... Duct tape is always a good investment lol. Only way I have ever hurt myself on a rail is slipping and cracking my ribs on one.... That hurt. A lot

P.S. In response to your problem, I would suggest a different stance. If you fall, dont try to tuck up or anything like instinct might tell you, I just try to land on my upper back/side with my arms tucked in and my legs out and spread apart. I find it spares my wrists and my pant legs (or shins in your case).

In whistler they were setting up rails at the bottom for like a night time rail jam thingy and I slid one a few times and one time I slipped back and my knee went straight into one of the metal feet which was sticking out of the slushy snow. It hurt so bad for a few seconds and just went away. I even hiked back up to try it again but it was mad sore so I went in to the hotel. I had apre ski and like an hour later I took off my ski pants and there was a huge blood stain on my thermals. Turned out what I thought was a bruise was really a massive cut in my knee. I got like nine stitches. It looked so nasty but I've felt more pain getting kicked in the shins honestly

Naw it sucked, I was trying cork threes or something and I wasn't able to brig it around or something I don't know. It was painful.
