My friend and I have set up FakesRevealed as a business project, and we would like your feedback on the site.
FakesRevealed is intended to help customers tell the difference between genuine and fake designer clothing. The website makes money through Google AdSense adverts, and hopefully Affiliate Programmes in the near future.
The URL is http://www.FakesRevealed.com/
Just looking for general feedback on the idea itself, the design of the website and how useful the content is. Bear in mind that the site is still somewhat 'under construction' and not all the guides are present yet.
+++karma for some good responses

I think its a pretty good idea. If I bought some designer clothing I was skeptical about, I'd know where to go.

good idea
put in some shoes and sunglasses, maybe some brands that are expensive but not as intense designer

You should include photos(when you put them up) underneath each part that that describes differences, with the parts being described in red circles or with arrows. Also, i don't really like the homepage very much. It seems too basic and outdated, you should include better graphics and a better layout further down the road.

Yeah I was considering including them in the text itself, at the moment they are down the left hand sidebar as thumbnails.
Hugo Boss is a good one to look at as it has some sick pictures and the guide itself is pretty decent

How much money per click are you getting at this point in the websites stage?? Just wondering..

being totally up fron the site is a piece of shit. it looks nice to the normal eye but it looks like u made it in macromedia fireworks. theres almost no text and you expect to have stuff with php code in it soon. hmm

Not a lot, which is why we are looking to change to affiliate schemes which will hopefully generate more revenue.
At the moment I'd estimate about 50c per click, and we don't get too many clicks!
Any ideas to help boost traffic and clicks would be appreciated

the first thing i would do is set up real text in the body then i would set all the headings to real text and if necessary make them .gifs. .pngs are huge files and it takes alot more time than needed to upload the thing. it also needs alot more pictures

post a thread on 4chan, that will probably generate at least 100 clicks. just be careful which forum you post it in.

Yeah that is pretty ironic but there aren't any other adverts available to us at the moment, and AdSense is quite easy to use.

Something to consider.....

Because all of your text is not really text, but rather pictures, your website will be nearly invisible to search engines unless you have some hidden text somewhere that I can't see. Search engines can't read pictures.

If you want the ability to be found and haven't considered this problem yet, I would stop what you are doing and rethink your website design.

Cheers,

Ryan

Good idea, just have some less expensive designers. Not many people on here dress in Armani. Maybe have a section for SB dunks.

its a good idea and a good start. as stated some pics and more brands would make the site more legit. how did you go about doing your research for this project?

The problem with this concept is that no one makes fakes of actual designer clothing, just high priced "labels". For example you have there Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani (the cheapest Armani line in existence), A&F, Lacoste, and Ralph Lauren. None of those are designer brands, actually they're mainly mall brands. Ralph Lauren is the closest to "designer", because the higher end stuff (black label and purple label) have suits, dress shoes and the like made by reputable tailors and shoemakers (St. Andrews, Edward Green etc). These are clothes people buy for the logo or the brand name, not for a particular aesthetic or because of the quality (which in all of those cases, except higher end RL and the very top line of Armani, is extremely poor). So it really doesn't matter if the item is fake or not: it still has the logo and the brand name.

As a rule, if it's the sort of thing people make fakes of, it's not worth owning even if it's an original. This is not true for girls though, or so I'm told, so maybe if you targeted the women's market you'd be better off... but I imagine there are plenty of girls who do NOTHING BUT obsess over this kind of thing, so there's probably a few options out there on that.

I think you are correct except for the fact that he is in Europe. Perhaps the fashion sense in Europe is a little different, which would account for the perceived larger audience interest.

there are literally hundreds of sites telling you down to the most minute detail what to look for when spotting fake nikes.
this is definitely a good idea. tell your friend to keep an eye out on forums, blogs, etc that might have readers with similar interests, and to contact admins on these sites to get the name out there. something like this could definitely be good for a lot of people. a lot of this information is already out there, but not compiled in one place, so kudos for that. keep making it bigger, and this could definitely be a solid resource.

Like someone said it looks like it was made in Fireworks or whatever it's called. Also, all those brands are either for huge homos or rich white kids (many of whom are huge homos).

I think there ae some other sites like this but yours is pretty good. I didn't know jewellry was spelled that way in Britian, I know defense and defence and stuff like that....
It has potential keep it up!

Yeah things are a little different in Europe, and Emporio Armani isn't the cheapest - Jeans and Exchange are lower.
Also we have a couple of guides on women's stuff, the Chloe handbags guide springs to mind.

Chloe isn't as popular in America with teens as it is in Europe. Most of my friends think my Paddington bag is a cheap fake leather bag. HA!

I think you are off to an excellent start for your site. Burberry would be a good addition if you haven't decided on that yet.

Good idea. You should get a section for sunglasses too (Oakley and Foakley's and what not). INteresting though. I like!

yeah agreed, go to some stores, take pictures of tags, put em up.

you need to do smething about the laoding time of all the text, make it actual text instead of pngs because the first two seconds on the site is just a bunch of empty boxes that then pop up.

but i think you have a great idea going

We will be adding guides on sunglasses during the update, there seems to be a lot of demand, which brands would you suggest, other than Oakley?

Very nice site! Professionally done. I to operate a website so I know how time consuming and challenging it can be! Good luck with it. It has big potential!

love the idea, this could become a great resource. One thing though
there's an ad for 99$ louis vouitton bags on the sidebar, not a good loook.

the idea is sick. and the info seems really summed up and easy to understand. just idk if this is throughout the site but one of the videos was "removed by user" idk i guess you could fix that but honestly it seems to be achieving what you intended on it to achieve.

real dunks/nikes, real jordans.

i can help you out out knowing if jordans are fake or not. just PM if you got any questions
