Fake Liberals, Hippies, Earthies, Tree-huggers, etc...

This Earth Hour thing last night made me realize there are so many fakes when it comes to the whole global warming crisis.

I have talked to sooo many people who are trying to rip on me for driving an SUV or something of that nature, and I argue back to them, and realize, they don't know their shit. They repeat these stats that are completely bogus and anybody with common sense would know they are false.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not an energy-guzzling, Hummer driving guy, but I also don't pose as being a hippy or really earthy. A bunch of people are trying to be earthy, but completely contradict themselves by a.) the cars they drive/gas they use b.) the lack of knowledge they have, and c.) the energy they use.

I respect those who actually know their shit, and are able to tell me why certain things are bad for the environment from a scientific standpoint, but so many kids are just preaching this global warming propaganda they hear on CNN. I'm not ripping on the media, I just cannot stand people who pretend they care about the earth.

This probably didn't make much sense, but it's hard to explain. If you know what I'm feeling, post, but this has been annoying me for a while.

P.S. If you are going to be defensive and jump on me saying I don't know my stuff, I have decent knowledge in it, and I don't go out claiming to know it and trying to teach it to people.

yea those are kind of people who's only source of information has been an inconvenient truth. and preach that we are heading to a global warming apocalypse

I've never seen inconvenient truth, or follow much of what the media says about Global Warming. I've written a few papers on it though so I like to think I know my stuff a little bit, probably way better than the bogus the media would feed me.

Saying that, I'm not the most energy conscious. I drive a car that only runs premium fuel, I probably waste more water than I should. On the other hand, I always make sure lights aren't off if I'm not using them, I walk to class everyday, rain, sleet or snow. I try and minimize my use of other products that are harmful to the environment. If everyone just did little things to help out, it would make alot of impact. People don't need to be crazy environmentalists to make a difference.

agreed, but i am saying people should know their shit

i guess this was stimulated a few nights ago when 2 girls tried to convince me that global warming is going to end the world within the next 3 years... yes, they actually said that, not even as a joke

Global warming is a bunch of bull. It's a natural thing. It's how the Earth works.

Boulder is the most hypocritical town ever.

Many consider me a tree-hugging hippy, but I do know my stuff, spent a whole semester away doin in Junior year. But yes, I completely agree with you...I'd much rather someone like you than a poser

yeah i have to say i'm not the most "energy efficient" person around, but i do give some effort. i turn off lights i'm not using, don't run excess water just small things to try to make some difference. in no way do i know a lot about it, but i don't act like it. i would like to get into it a little more, but it just as convenient. i know hate all you want, but it's honest...

people like that  piss me off. alot of the rednecks just call me a hippy and treehugger when i talk about that shit, but i actually know what im saying and pwn the shit out of them. i deff. try to use as little as possible, ride my bike everywhere. the car my mom drives and the car im getting runs on ethonal. and i for sure care about the environment. i live in montana and its so beutiful and nice, it would suck if global warming keeps continuing how it has been cause things will get fucked up over here.

I see what you're getting at man, but some people are just idiots, plain and simple, and I'd rather all the idiots were brainwashed into thinking being green was cool rather than just keeping on going and destroying everything. Surely even changing a little bit will help.

i do things like try to drive a car with decent mpg and turn lights off and stuff. and yeah i get on people sometimes for polluting excessively and littering i hate. and i dont know a ton of stuff. but yeah fakes are gay but whats the worts that can happen by saving energy? you save money? it doesnt have many downsides but it DOES help

correct me if im wrong but ethonal is just as bad for the environment and it causes more cultivation of corn which is bad because then all the farmers shift to growing just corn for more money and it destroys soil ect.

k, no offense i guess, but you're just what this guy is talkin about, but on the other end. You really don't know what you're talkin about, but rattle of completely inaccurate facts against eco-friendly(er) solutions...I'd be interested, what "studies" have shown this?

point-its not good that were polluting the environment

problem-nobody gives a fuck because were all to lazy to do anything. Plus it isn't as much of an immediate crisis as many believe.

It bugs me too. I know I'm going to sound like sort of a douche/hypocrite to some people maybe, but I don't own a car, I just get rides places with people who are going anyway or I ride my bike or walk/hitch hike, I recycle all garbage I ahve thats recyclable, I don't turn my lights on unless I absolutely need themwhen its dark out, and i have been known to turn off teh lights and TV in the lounge on my res floor when no one is there late at night. I turn the shower off while I'm sudsin' up in between and, truth be told I don't shower every day. I always hang up my cloithes to dry in my room insteaad of using the dryer. I always print double sided or on teh abck of a used piece of paper, I almost always buy used clothes and I try to find a use for something if its worn out. So when people that drive all over teh place in their "fuel efficient' cars, get low energy lights and stuff but then leave them on all the time and tthen come across all high and mighty about being environmentally conscious, It bugs me too, but I think its good in a way, it's better that its "fashionable" to be environmentally conscious-seeming than to not know anythign about it at all.
2 cents spent.

its all about being hip a hipster come on. watch south park hybrid car episode.

its like the people voting for obama that dont know why. they cant really give u a reason i have no problem with people that really know why they want to but. i guess its just to the hip thing to do to be like yaahh obama sweeet.

Ethanol.
Hybrids.
Bottled Water.
Recycling anything besides Aluminum.
Light Beer.

All of these are bad for the enviroment. well not really light beer but only fake liberals, hippies, earthies, tree-huggers, etc drink it, so its just as bad as everything else I listed.

you're just going to have to face it, any american feeds into the planet munching system here, i doub't you'll find someone who's not going to be some sort of hypocrit about makign change.

hopefully however, everyone who says they're supporters of green, actually do go green when the system allows them to.

See what bugs me is SUV drivers who absolutely don't need one. I think they are great for those who need them ex trucks for work/ jeeps for shitty weather. But its high school girls who drive suvs that drive me crazy. Im not concerned about global warming so much, mainly hate how it makes the gas prices skyrocket. Also, if that retarded driver were to hit me in an accident, I would be much more likely to die/get seriously hurt. If people only got that type of car when needed, we would not be in this oil cluster fuck.

It's not worse really, every energy source has a price though. The big thing to understand about ethanol is that it doesn't give off as much energy as gasoline when burned. Therefore, it cost about the same since you don't get as high of mileage with a cheaper fuel. Any alternative sources are probably good considering the shortage of fuel though.

The price isn't as much as a worry, to me personally. Like you said, it takes more because it doesn't give off as much energy per unit volume. The bigger problem with that is that it uses much much more room to grow all the corn for the ethanol. Farmers are needing tons of land to grow the ethanol, and agriculture can be pretty bad for the environment. Mostly due to how much water they use, etc. Additionally, that means less space is being used for grains. With less grain coming in, coupled with the bad harvests we had in 2007 the price of grains has skyrocketed. The price of flour has gone up over 400%, which is really hurting businesses and consumers and is really hurting our economy in the beginning of 2008. Personally, while ethanol is great that it can be used, I don't think it is a very viable fuel source. We need to find something better.

Nuclear power imo ;)

Ya like you said, every action has a price. Simple economics. Nuclear power is a great source of very large amounts of energy, but the waste is dangerous and hard to get rid of. Hopefully we can figure out some way to use nuclear energy and feed the waste out to space or something!

I have absolutely no idea if it would be possible or not, but it would be kinda cool to see nuclear powered cars in the future. You would need such a small amount of radioactive material I think it could be safe with the right precautions. It could produce so much electricity that you could power a car no problem, but like I said I have no idea on the feasibility of a having a generator in a car, how big it would be, dangers of it etc. Would be interesting to see though. Even in a crash I don't think there would be much of an issue, because you would be using so little material it wouldn't go into a meltdown. Just as long as it was properly disposed afterwards I guess.

Like I said, there is no fact in that ^. Just idle speculation.

As much i think that nuclear power to power your car is a good idea, it will never happen. Oil companies right now are a huge influence on what kind of cars are being made. If cars could be powered my nuclear energy, oil companies wouldn't be bringing in the cash that they are now. Even if they became distributors of the product we would need to run our cars.

California was well on their way to having a completely viable electric car system, until the oil companies stepped in. Check out the movie "Who killed the electric car?"

Interesting. I still think it could be possible with the technology we have today. And if they had some sort of casing on the reactor that was nearly indestructible on impact (really think lead or something) it could protect from any of the nuclear fallout. Who knows.

oil companies suck but really dont make that much money. they might make 64billion in profits one year but every few years they have to put 200billion into research and new rigs and shit. i mean ya they make money but not that much. a lot of the oil companies are also doing research on alternative fuels because they are not stupid they know people want it and they want to be the ones to provide it to make some more pennies off of it.

Exxon Mobil makes the most money in one year out of ANY company in the US ever. They do spend almost 20 billion a year on research and exploration, but that's only a third of their total cash flow from operations and assets. Exxon Mobil has an average return on capital employed of 32.2%, which is very high. Shell and Chevron also are making more money than they ever have in the past. There are no windfall taxes and no price-gouging laws.

ethanol is pretty much the same and worse, with all the subsidies the govt gives to the farmers and all of the transportation fees and polution its hands down worse that oil which is easly shipped and somewhat available ethanol made from hemp is really good a ton better than corn

shit dude im a asshole i need a milion planest to live but then again i cant do metric

the sad thing is, that is about the average for Americans. Really makes you think about the impact of you as the individual.

honestly, how many people joined those facebook groups and then didn't do anything or forgot about it.

I put up signs in my dorm bathrooms to turn off the lights when you leave and some kid actually had the balls to come into my room to request me to take them down because it's too much of an inconvenience to him and he gets pissed off when people leave and they turn off the lights while he's taking a dump. I just laughed and told him to GTFO.
