Factory seconds?

anyone know where to get some factory seconds? I know moment is selling a few super stiff ones for a good price, and that for whatever reason won't sell any of the recalled bibbys, but just wondering. there must be a fair number of screw ups that can't be sold in stores but that ski just fine.

sadly most get thrown away. It is not economically sensible to sell them because its just less people buying the full price skis. I know you used to be able to buy line blems from untracked.com. not sure if you still can though.

If you want to contact companies themselves stick with the smaller ones, as they are losing more when they throw away a ski. Lets just say it does not cost Salomon a lot of money to produce a pair of skis.

Also try pm gear, they have a pretty high blem ratio.

it seems like with the recalled bibby's moment is planning on melting the bad topsheets off and putting new ones on, just like line did with the spiral and octolands

I've been riding some blemished BD Zealots and still have yet to figure out what is wrong with them. Factory seconds are awesome because in this case it saved me $200.

thanks. yeah, PM does have a pretty high rate. unfortunately they don't quite have what I'm looking for, and they're still expensive, even after the discount. So that's what moment is doing with them. I asked them and they just said 'unfortunately they are not for sale'. I would have liked it if they had just explained to me why, as they kinda made it seem like they would not be reusing any part of them. I still like moment though, just thought they'd be a little more open. It'd be interesting to see a ski with a melted off topsheet though. I'd almost think that they would have more of an issue than the original problem of some untreated topsheet. I say this because they will need to add epoxy, and will likely have some residue from the original topsheet, which will add weight (I don't know if it is significant or not though). I trust they made a well thought out decision, but it would almost make more sense to me to sell those skis without putting any more money or time into them. who knows, but they seem to sell out of their skis and would profit more from increasing volume. refurbishing these ones must be costing a serious amount of money due to the labour and epoxy/topsheets, which are two expensive components of skis. oh well though, sorry for the ramble.

This is a subject that is a basic lesson that you go over in business school. If you sell or even give away factory seconds there is no guarantee that the product will not go into the secondary market whether it be to another friend for free, ebay, craigslist, or whatever. If this does happen then you start to kill your reputation with your factory-second products because people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a normal product and a factory-second product. This happens all the time in manufacturing plants, unfortunately if you have a bad run many companies will throw away thousands of dollars worth of bad finished goods.

do they destroy the skis when they throw them away? cause if not the dumpster behind a ski factory would be a ski bum's paradise.

don't worry, nothing is wrong with your skis. The original Line anthems were 07 models and they had to recall them because Kiss (i think it was kiss) made a copyright claim, arguing that the original graphic was a breach of copyright. Line didn't sell those skis that year. Line removed the cap from those skis and replaced them. Voila, Octolands and Spirals
