Faction Candide 4.0 or 5.0?

This is has been driving me crazy. I’m looking for a fun, playful, yet hard charging powder ski and these 2 popped on my radar.

But I can’t figure out which one I should cop! It seems like such small differences.

So can anybody please tell me the differences, pros, and cons of the Candide 4.0 and 5.0? I just need to wrap my head around who these skis are for.

5.0 only exists in 183, so if you need anything longer or shorter go with the 4.0 (they both felt great in pow when I tried them, except the 4.0 was a lot better on groomers on the way back to the lift)

FWIW, the 5.0 will also be available in a 190 next season.

Should be getting on the 4.0 and 5.0 soon and could offer some comparisons then. Seems like, on paper at least, the main difference is the 5.0's lack of camber, which should make it more pivoty / slarvy and I wouldn't be surprised if it's not as good on firm snow.

I wouldn't be surprised either. But how much worse is the real question though. And also how many groomers are really gonna be groomed on a sick pow day?!

I have next year's 4.0 and 5.0 (which are largely unchanged from 1819). the 5.0 is a bit stiffer, and having spent a lotttt of time on my 1819 5.0 in all conditions, they carve very well. Would I race on them, no. but groomers are super fun on them, even with flat 0 camber.

the 4.0s have a ton of rocker and then minimal camber. which would make them a bit more squirrely, but possibly more playful.

That said, def go with the 5.0!

I had just the 5.0 for a while as my only ski in New England at the beginning of the season, was super fun on everything.

ATTENTION!!: Whatever you do, mount at the Candide (forward) line, not all mountain. they ski so much better there

Dude. Seriously thanks for the responses. I'm glad to know the 5.0s can rip on everything. You're definitely pushing me in the 5.0 direction.

I've even slid a few boxes on them haha. might have to take them down the great wall of china next!

And also how the hell did you get your hands on the 19/20 models?!

Well that explains it. Is the candide forward mounting point true center or slightly back?

slightly back. The 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 are all directional sidecuts anyway, so you wouldn't want to go true dead center. but his line just gives a better balanced feeling to the ski

I have both the 4.0 and the 5.0 and they're my only skis. The 4.0 is slightly easier to manage on harder snow because of the little amount of camber, as well as a slightly skinnier waist. The 5.0 doesn't want to turn. Ever. It's balls to the fucking wall. I love both and have skied them from New England to the Alps, and I will almost always take the 5.0 over the 4.0. Listen to the guy who works for them, he knows whats up too.

Is the 4.0 at its best mounted at Candide too? I have just snagged some of this years in the sales. Thanks

yup! the new 3.0 for 1920is only going to have the CT line, i pushed hard for that, as its the line to go with 10/10

Is the current 3.0 really that much better too at the CT line? I have mine mounted at the "all mountain" line (I use them with the Shift, but considering how little touring I do with them it wouldn't change much), but was thinking of redrilling them.

Yes! I have had three versions of the current model (which is now out going). Ive only ever mounted them at CT line. they skis so well there. on groomers, trees, park, everywhere haha

the new version is gonna be sickkkk! its pretty hushed up, but I will say that the waist will be 112 (instead of 108) and the shape will be more like the 5.0 hehe

I had the previous version of the 3.0, the 112 from 2015, and I love those skis. They were really great.

I have STH2 13 WTRs on my 5.0s and that’s tight and def need the 130 brake. 4.0 mightttt take the 115, but if the 130 retracts far enough I’d do that to be safe

Yo man, did you redrill these? are the 3.0's full rocker / flat ? I have the 5.0's and need to figure out where to mount

i need max pivot / slarve. which I would htink is the further back mounting position

I have this years 3.0 mounted at the Candide line it’s way better. I’ve skied them at both lines and they turn on a dime at the CT line. The 5.0 is flat so you’ll have crazy pivot either way but the Candide line is where it’s at, trust

alright I guess that settles it. I guess the problem with the Nocta's (I just posted in the other thread) was that the recommended mount was true center? seems retarded I should of redrilled them

No the mount point for the Nocta is 6 back from center, I owned a pair

14110764:effyeadude said:
yea I have them shelved so long, am not sure. how'd you like em? or how you compare to candides?

Candide 5.0 is stiffer for sure, more fun in my opinion. The Nocta is really soft and not nearly as versatile. The CT 5 is honestly not bad on groomers given how wide it is.

Yes I did! They're great at the Candide line. But the 3 are not the same skis as the 5.

Mount at the CT Line

I followed the advice for candide line on my 3.0's (and 1.0 of course) and the 3.0 just feels at home there, even for groomers they can charge pretty hard, just fun skis.

I want to buy faction CT 3.0 as I want a thicker CT 2.0 (my previous ski) but I am unsure as people are bringing up a lot of durability issues once again. I was also looking at new 2021 releases such as the Rossi sender Ti and the dynastar m-free 108. Can anyone give some tips?

2.0 and 3.0 are not the same ski at all. 3.0 is much lighter, has skinnier edges, and is much stiffer.

If not the 3.0 then what other all-mountain freride ski is good ?

There are literally hundreds of skis in this category. Take your pick. You want faction? Go with the prodigy 3.0

If not faction then what else could I go for ?

I mean literally every single ski company has a ski that will fit this need. How do you ski? how tall are you? what do you want the ski to do? Where do you ski? how advanced of a skier are you?

I am 180 cm tall and weigh about 53 kg. I ski in the Italian, French and Austrian alps. I am more focused on off piste and all mountain skiing but want to go to the park sometimes to fool around. I am an advanced skier and want the ski to be durable and not extremely light weight but a average weight to feel good in the air. I mostly go big mountain skiing.
