Facebook people who call themselves photographers

oh and theres this girl that insists her d3000 with 18-55 is worth over 1200$ and is one of the best dslr's out there....

That's pretty cool.

Also, fuck people who post over 9000 pictures every week. Your eating up my Facebook trolling bandwidth.

That's actually a sick photo, the watermark describing where it is, is just pain full. I really think you should tell her to stop labeling photos, It's kinda embarrassing.

this^

Im gonna sound like a complete "hipster" and all that jazz, feel free to skip over this following rant. But i go to a fairly small school in a city that has no culture or art appreciation what so ever, the most popular past time is going to the casino and bowling leagues, (i.e where i go to high school fucking sucks). anyways, i've always been interested in photography as long as i can remember, I've always read (or looked at) Nat Geo mags when i was real little, saying "i wanted to be a National Geographic Photographer" and whatnot. When i 1st started getting into taking pictures myself (around 15 years old, i got a lil kodak point n' shoot for christmas) Some people saw them, thought they were cool and whatnot, cuz no one else took pictures "for fun" in the whole school. And from there one can only advance, learning new stuff, buying new equipment and becoming one with your camera. I do it for myself, i feel like i need to, or else i wont feel the freedom that it entails. Fast foward almost 3 years later, theres now around 10 or more "professional photographers" in the school who have they're own fan page and watermarks, when they're only marketing tool is the shiit they post on FB every 20 minutes. (And i am not saying my stuff is good, but i do it for my own souls fulfillment, not how many likes i can get on fb.)

Sorry for the useless rant, it just kinda pisses me off for someone to label them self as a photographer just because you own a camera.

fixed

Yeah I've had pictures used by small clothing companies or websites but am still amatuer enough to where I feel that watermarking them is overkill. Should I start doing that?

(Not really making money off them yet either)

This thread kinda reminds me of a sport where every second person has a gopro or contour strapped onto them..

But back on topic - my god, why do people feel the need to upload every single fucking photo they take to facebook?? This infuriates me. Select a handful of photos that sum up your event/holiday/cat. 5 - 10 should be sufficient. I don't care that you managed to push the shutter release enough times to fill your memory card..

funny cause recently I bought a t2i from best buy on a deal... the price point gave me the incentive instead of the D3100, but I fully agree with this, an absolute no go

hate to break it to you all, but every single one of the people posted is a 'photographer'. the act of taking photographs makes them photographers. They could be good, or bad, but still photographers. By pursuing the hobby, one hopes that their skill improves, and their marketing expands past facebook, but they are indeed photographers, and can call themselves so.

wow thanks for the technicality check there! we know that, its the fact that they are hot headed about their point and shoot photography

lolz and we cant forget about the girl that has a camera that LOOKS like a dslr but doesnt know the difference... sigh

lol, my friends are into bikes and they asked me to shoot some photos, i had to basically sell my soul to use my dads eos7d but i think i took better pictures than that

i am by no means a "photographer" i just was asked to take some shit and i learned a little about how to use the camera from mah dad

Hahaha I didn't read the thread, but this thread is about 98% of NS. Seriously. ZOMGZ GUIZE which uber 1337 camera should I buy so I can shoot mediocre shots of my friends jumping on a trampoline!?!??!?! And then I'll take pictures of flowers, and maybe some black and white shots of my hipster friends on a skateboard lolololzzz.

Yeah, it's gonna be one of those nights.

Just do what I do and don't waste your life sifting through some random dumb bitches shitty hipstamatic photos... seems to work pretty well for me.

some people... when they hold a camera think it is a curtain hiding their actual skill from the photos they decide to exhibit. they think better camera = better photo. but actually, the better the camera in the hands of a novice can actually yield a worse photograph.

Then there are the girls who post their model photos..........
I think they may be worse. It's one thing to let your friend take great photos of you, its another to say, hey check out my model portfolio guyz!!! followed with OMG! You look soo HAWT! You will book in no time.... in kansas.
I've noticed this happening to several of the females I went to highschool with.

^^ Or the fact that almost every chick I know his hotter on facebook.I wanna comment on all their pics "PHOTOSHOPPED"

please just hit him. T1i doesn't shoot in 1080p and not even the 1DsIII starts up in .01 seconds...

This is like exactly what they tell you not to do in lesson 1 of bla bla bla beginning photography for complete dumbasses 101. If anything you should do the complete opposite. I wanted to respond to this because the one photo looks like the set from the blair witch project, and then I saw your explaination and I laughed.

I always thought that taking pictures of inanimate everyday objects with the background out of focus was how you become a photographer.

But, in all seriousness, I feel bad for a lot of these people. Dropping $1000 or more on cameras, photographing other people having a good time or random objects, sucking at life, sucking at photography. It's kind of sad.

This guy is a perfect example:

And he has albums and albums of photos on facebook, each and every one watermarked.

^Well he did discover some features in Ps...judging by the last pic.

I know a girl who is actually pretty good.

Then I also know people who do this, and I hate them, but they got love comments from fellow hipsters:

(MY EYES)

You wanna know what pisses me off even more than this?

Bitches who photoshop the hell out of their pictures, then get comments like

"OMGGGG EYESSSS

do you guys ever see the girls that think they are professional photo editers and say like my status for an edit and shit like that.

Photoshop? lol

probably only topped by all the "videographers" on here.

i hate the uncreative "oh lets put a dirty hip hop beat in it" and copy everything else you can.

seriously, 90% of edits are so uncreative, its not even funny.
