holy fuck, this thread has some of the stupidest things i have ever read in it. dont you all ski? dont you enjoy the winter? Right now, it looks like global warming is deffinitely deffinitely an actual thing. there is more proof for it then against it. but fuck, even if it does end up being false, wouldnt you rather try to prevent it just because if it is real, we are all fucked. i would start explaining about the flooding and deaths, but since a lot of you are ignorant enough to think that it doesnt matter, ill just stick to skiing. so if you heard that in 10 years you wouldnt be able to ski because its getting warmer, and all you had to do was drive less, pollute less, and use more energy efficient machines, wouldnt you want to do that? its not that hard at all. and it just amazes me that you would risk losing it just because youre lazy. and the whole argument that oh, it doesnt matter what we do, other countries are worse, is fucking ridiculous. unfortunately al gore made the movie and not someone else, because now people will jsut dismiss it as liberal media.

What happens happens thats fate. If its such a big problem why don't you do something about it instead of talking about it. Al Gore's documentary did nothing more then making people say wow.. we fucked up an we are all going to die. How many of you people saw the movie and decided to ride your bicycle to class or go buy a hybrid car? Yeah not too many. I saw the movie, thought to myself.. wow I wonder what the worlds going to be like in 50 years.. got into my big gas gussling V8 f-150 and drove home. Maybe you should write a big petition saying you don't want to die and i'm sure that will make industries plug up their smokestacks. We are an industrialized society. If we keep doing what we are doing your going to have everyone complaining. If we change it we are still going to have everyone complaining. The only way around it is to go back to a 18th century way of life but with computers and thats something that is never going to happen. I know we are all sick of our republican president and I'm sure that the next election will come out in favor of democrat and they are going to make emission laws stricter. Its not going to work in the big scheme of things. Millions of people contribute to it, me, you, your parents, our dogs. So if you feel so strongly that we can fix the problem fix it. You can do anything want if you really want to. The problem is you can't get billions of people to want to fix the problem. Our industrialization peaked already... but in Asia it has not. If you can't get everyone in this thread to agree how are you going to get the whole world to.

global warming is fake.. ok in the '70s they were afraid of a global ice age.. the earth can have trends.. its not always a cold winter but there are cold streaks/ hot streaks.. also COWS LET OUT MORE CO2 THEN ALL HUMANS!!! so if u wanna do something about it eat more meat!

When did I say it was all china's fault lmfao. I said our industrialization peaked already.. We started industrializing WAY before ASIA did. They industrialization is still growing while ours has stopped growing. Do you understand now?? Read before making yourself look like a complete dumbass.

North America's putting out more Co2 than any other country, its more up to you than anyone.

and saying india and china cant afford to change is an un-educated statement.
 
Seriuosly shut the fuck up with this CO2 bullshit. Scientists don't get grants to say everything is fine. They get grants to say we are all doomed. Natural Science is a fairly new field. Human's CANNOT put out enough CO2 to cause global warming. Mount Pinatubo's eruption in the Philipines in 1991 put out more pollutants into the air than all the automobiles ever built and driven up to the point of it's eruption. And that's a single vocanic eruption from a single volacano. Volcanoes and forest fires put out 99.93452% more CO2 then humans do and that is natural.
 
CO2 is not the problem. Its manmade chemicals such as CFCs and manmade Chlorine that does not dissolve.
 
true, thats what erodes the ozone layer. i am actually curious as to where you found the statistic about mount pinatubo, that'd be nuts if it was true

 
co2 is a greenhouse gas, it is responsible for warming the planet by trapping heat energy. CFCs etc break down O3 molecules, but that is a different issue than the warming of the planet

have you ever heard scientists talk about teraforming a planet like mars to make it hospitable? they talk about implementing co2 'factories' that would release co2 into the atmosphere to thicken it up and warm up the place.

do you notice at the end of the chart i posted there is a very large red spike? now i'm pretty sure that volcanic activity hasn't all of a sudden shot up in recent years, i mean you quoted one from '91? it's not like volcanos of such high magnitude are erupting every day spewing massive ammounts of co2 into the atmosphere BUT somehow that co2 level has spiked up as if something were spewing massive ammounts of co2 into the atmosphere

i wonder what that something is...

arn't you the one who said it was trees that go into reverse photsynthesis with age? maybe thats the answer...

...no actualy i don't think thats it seeing how that doesnt even make sense at all figuring in chloroplast's structure and how that whole photosynthesis thing works. maybe when my grandpa goes out to sunbathe for lunch because his mitochondra all of a sudden decide to work in reverse because he got old i'll believe it but... hmm i really do wonder though what causes a release of co2...

First of all i am not sure weather(pund intended) to believe global warming is real or not. First of all environmentalist defininately exagerate their findings and secondly hasent global temperature change has been happening for the entire last century. I dont think that the fuel emmissions of the few cars that existed at the beginning of the century could have an true affect on climate. However one aspect that has been ignored here is the fact that the destruction/ burning or rainforest causes Co2 emmissions also. However I do not think any scientist has been able to prove that Co2 increase is the cause of climate change. As for the need to fix the problem i do not think there is really any worry. Our oil supply will defininately turminate before global warming can be fixed or has its full effect. By then we will have alternate fuel sources that will not emmit co2 and the problem will be solved.
 
first off global climate changes can occur at extreemly rapid paces; the onset of the last iceage took only 10 years

secondly when you say an alternate fuel source that won't emmit co2, i think what you mean is an alternate method for energy production; 'cleaner burning fuels' are still hydrocarbons and will still emit co2

combustion is some sort of form of

CH4 + 2o2 = 2h20 + co2

the only 'clean' combustion would be h + o2 = h2o

however hydrogen fuel cells are not exactly practical at this point: see

$30 per KwH (est. for 2007)

vs.

gas' a few cents(3.8 - 5.6 cents)per KwH

the solution lies NOT in just creating a more ecological way of consuming things but actualy cutting back on consumption and changing our actual lifestyles which is something that won't come easy at all

This is probably one of the most stupid things that has ever been written here on NS. First of all, as many already mentioned, global warming is not caused by pollution. Though it is a fact that pollution accelerates the process of global warming. But wtf is a "communist liberal", who are they, and why do they hate industrialization. Please explain.
 
the thing is though, when mount st. helen's(sp?) erupted, it blew 1000 times the amount of co2 into the air than the entire state of washington has since it became a state. Global warming would happen regardless of human interaction. I also think that this is just a warming trend as far as the warm weather goes.
 
look at the chart at the top of this page, we can assume that volcanic activity is probably responsible when the co2 levels are at a high durring the past 300,000 years, however since volcanic activity hasn't dramaticly increased in the past few years where there is an unprecedented amount of co2 in the atmosphere it is illogical to say that they are still the main cause behind the increased amounts of co2
 
is it that hard to accept it? and yeah average temperature is rising slightly because of ice age, but it shouldnt rise that fast.
 
im sorry to say this, but most of you dont want to believe in it, because america is the most responsible about it.
