Throughtout this season i have become somewhat of a park rat. I have gotten a lot better at rails and jumps but i got away from real skiing. Saturday me and a few friends went to Winter Park/Mary Jane in CO. A friend took us to a place at MJ he was telling us about. At first i was pissed cause i wanted to shred the park. We hiked our way up to the spot and we come out to a small clearing that was absolutely beautiful.

We went down through trees in thigh to waist deep powder. I found a small tree slanted sideways out of the ground with about a 10ft drop of of it. I drop of the tree and land neck deep in powder. My goggles were completely covered, I could not see anything. It was the best skiing moment of my life. A lot better then my first rail or first 360. I then realized how much to skiing there is then just the park. So fellow NSers get out of the park and start shredding some pow!

so true..i ski with my bro and hes an absolute rat, but i just love true skiing and hittin the glades and such

i love skiing powder its way better than skiing park

of course when i clicked on the thread title i thought you would've been saying you did shrooms or LSD but no you went tree skiing..ehh diff. then i expected

i remember hiking 3 hours in breckenridge to the top of this peak. it was the worst three hours of my life, and i got to the top and saw a plane fly underneath me. my cousin and our friend all skied above waist deep pow the whole way down, and hit a decent 20 foot drop that felt like nothing. it was the best skiing moment i have ever experienced.

This is from Saturday... I totally hear ya on the park vs powder... I love park and am in the all the time, but as soon as it snows more than a foot I'm gone!

Awesome man, sounds like Tophers trees, was it a short hike off Roundhouse, near Trestle?

I have had so much fun at WP the last week, it's gotten so quiet and the snow has been sick. The only times I've been in the park has been whilst teaching.

Yeah pow is fucking sick, after about a 30 minute hike at keystone the other day i had this light waist deep powder its so much fun to ski...

yea it was tophers trees. cut off on a little open patch through the trees. then hiked a few hundred feet to the top. first time i have ever been there.

Skiing has so much to offer. My favorite days is ripping a solid line down through a set of moguls, turning and burning 'em till you hit the bottom. Then looking back up and seeing the noobs flailing all around them, crossed skis, on thier collective butts, etc. Its a great feeling that your skills are improving. Or just spending the day carving really nice turns... its not all about rails and the park.

Besides... most girls are not in the park... you gotta prowl around.

There is definitely much more to skiing than park. I realize that, and I save the park for March & later

woo, thats very very ture, i wish everyone thought of this as well, however not everyone has the oppurtunity to shred the west with 3 feet of powder, alot of the park "rats" are from the east where park is often a highlight

if any of you have been to the canyons in park city utah, once you get off 9990, and hike up to the bowl, that is the most amazing thing ever. when i was there, untouched, the clouds were way low, i couldnt see the city, just untouched pow, and tips of some trees, just me and my buddies, thats the best fealing ever.
