External hard drive not starting. dead?

I bought a 1TB external hdd from western digital (mybook I think) a few years ago. hadn't used it in a while, last month started putting photos and videos on it for storage. plugged it in a few days ago and left it in the wall.

about an hour ago, it was plugged into my ps3, and I took it out to put some more dvds on it. plugged into my computer and nothing.

normally a blue light would come on, now it might flash for a second, the disk spins for a few more seconds, then it powers down.

previously, I lost the power cord, so I bought a new one on amazon (not sure if original cord or 3rd party). the light on the power cord is a solid green, so I think it's getting power.

at this point I'm assuming it's dead if the hdd starts to spin then shuts back down. anything I can do? thanks

Take it to an electronics store, I thought my laptop was dead, so I took it into an electronics store. This big big guy with a thick accent asked what was wrong with my laptop and I said it was dead and if there was anything I could do. He took out a new chord, plugged er in, and it was fine. I just suggest going to a store where they get paid to do this kind of stuff. Theyll know exactly what kind of thing you need to fix it so you dont have to buy stuff online that may or may not work.
