I was thinking it would be cool and make people on NS "know" each other a little more. I am thinking keep the profile the same but have a link to an "extended profile" that would open either in the profile or main screen. The extended profile could have lots of information or not any at all depending on what you want to answer. I am thinking it could have Drink/Smoke, Age, Favorite ski movies, music play list, video playlist out of the video section, etc... If you like this idea post it here. Or if you think it sounds to myspaceish post your opinion to.

no i don't want it to be like myspace i just think it would be handy to use, for example there have been times where i have seen kids that i used to be friends with or ski with on here and i look at their profile and i am thinking i might know this kid but im not to sure.

and another thing you could put on the "profile" would be buyer seller ratings like ebay.
 
so basically you want NS to go all web 2.0 with the social networking and whatnot? Just put a link to your facebook in your profile.
 
If you want to get to know someone on that level, you can just exchange through PMs. There's no reason to have all that information.
 
It's a great idea, especially for those who eat and breathe this stuff and want to network. why go to another site? An extended profile has more benefits to the site and individual users than negatives. For those who think it creates a myspace environment, so what? Don't look at profiles if it bothers you that much.

For example; I would much rather hire someone in my area who shares a love for skiing and I would hope that extended profiles could help provide that type of info .

I'd like to see features such as the ability to view a members posts, and a last seen feature where a persons most recent post is shown. Let people post things like their age and more personal stuff, but dont show the spots of people dont give that info. It needs a good balance of information that the member puts there and things that the website puts there based on what the member does. You will need a new spot for the karma system anyways so lets expand this a bit.

It is still only the profile. It will never become the backbone of NS. We still use forums, cults and media as the basis for being here. Somebody's name will never be the first place you click whenever you log in. Besides, if you dont like em don't view em.

Oh yeah, a posts per day calculator would rock.
 
If nothing else I think the profile should have buyer/seller section with a link to the item bought/sold and a comment from whoever bought or sold from the person. this would be much easier to use than the good buyer seller thread in my opinion. Kids reputations would be on the line and they wouldn't want to mess it up.
 
Buyer/Seller feedback is good.

Alo, the ability to search a members prior posts easily would be good too.

Not crazy like myspace but just a little more functionality to help you guys know a little more about each other.

 
now that you made it so the links work to the legal and privacy section at the bottom, do you think you could actually put something there? because right now its kinda blank
 
there makin freeskier.com a lot like ns in the way that the profiles and shit are gonna be seen and u can upload vids....it seems like this idea would be compteing to be better...as for if im up for it or not..idk
 
I am also thinking add some sort of "site contributions" section where it would give a post count telling how many posts were added to threads that the member created, post counts, post per day calculator, percentage of posts site contribution, stuff like that
