I've hit excess of 140 mph in both cars and on bikes. This is why I no longer allow myself on rice rockets (I also hit 120 in a 30 and didn't realize just how fast I was going) or allow myself to have a fast car.
Thankfully, I haven't hurt myself or anyone else and never got caught (but had to outrun a couple cops before - you get a hell of a jump on em when you pass a cop at 120+ mph on the highway setting a speed trap).
However, one of my friends was clocked at 146 mph in the breakdown lane on a major highway by me (65 mph speed limit). He flipped his mirror because of too much sun and ended up in a high-speed pursuit (5 cops), got through a road block (meant for him) because they called in the wrong type of car, and led the chase through 6 towns and over a state border before he saw the lights and stopped. Somehow he only got a major ticket. He also has so many tickets, any one he gets in the next bunch of years can mean permanent revokation of license. However, he's lowed down his speeds (but still gets caught for burn-outs and whatnot) after he rolled a bug 7 times with no seatbelt at 70mph (in a 65), spent the next 6 months in the hospital and another 8 months in a wheelchair/crutches/cane.
life is too short to have any regrets
