Exposure and Sponsorship = Good Skier?

I saw someone comment on this in Kye Peterson thread. They said if he is getting free stuff and getting exposure he must be doing something right. Now, Kye is awesome. Shaun White of skiing. But thats another thread. I see alot of kids getting sponsored and getting exposure who suck. Take Roy Tuscany for example. He is horrible, the laughing stock of the east coast, the red headed stepchild of the east coast. I mean, he has NO ability. I don't know what I am trying to say. I guess I am saying don't assume someone is good just becuase they get in a movie or two or a magazine and have sponsors.

it's all about who you know dude. kye is trevor peterson son and that's why he has the hook up (i have the utmost respect for kye, but face it, he wouldn't get nearly the same exposure if he were anyone else). you get play because of the people you know. quite frankly, who gives a fuck. if you rip it, people will notice you. free gear is sweet, but status whores degrade the whole thing. frankly, sponsorship isn't that big a deal, talent and being able to lay it down when you want is.

 
sponsorship is all I used to think about and now I just ski becasue its a sport I love and I am progressing so much faster.....sponsorship everyone sees is like the way out of school or a way to get in the spotlight I have a friend who is in a movie and has sponsorships but his life is still the same.

Yeah, you cannot compare Shaun White to anyone. Luke (Mitrani) is probably the next Shaun though.

I didn't want this to be about Kye, but he is definitley as good as, if not better better than Shaun White was at his age. The kid is 12 and is throwing down huge shit. When he was 10 I was out in Whistler and he was throwing D-7's I think. He is also a nasty surfer I hear, maybe good enough to have gone pro if he stuck with it. He is also a good skater, not as good as Shaun though. But my point was that he is as good as Shaun was at his age. When Kye is 14 or so he should start competing in X-Games by then and winning by 16. I don't know if that other dude is right. I think he would be getting the same exposure even if he wasn't Trevor's son. I definitly think he gets more of it though since he is Trevor's son. He gets alot more of it because of that. Its not his fault. Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

hey tupoc whare did u here the term 'red headed step child'? the only times i have ever herd it used was at a running camp by some x-navy guy. i thought it was only used by my track team.i guess not tho.

 
ya don't kid yourself, kye has alot of hype around him, i mean i know he's good but basically everyone is waiting for him to grow up to see if he'll change the sport, that's why there is so much hype,

also dont compare a snowboarder to a skier they have diferent qualities. i think u should ski to have fun but if u r able to get a sponsorship i say hell go for it u wont have to pay for equipment or anything

and being sponsored doesnt mean shit, fucking bryan gallant got sponsored by zeal optics and half of the kids at my hill would spank him any day

to let you all know, i looked up to kye for the longest time and didnt even know about his dad intill like... a week ago? haha and i still dont even undstand what he did that was so great

Wow wow, the kid's like 12. Some people change as they get older and loose their touch when they suddenly have muscles and altered balance and coordination. It could work both ways, you never know..

any 12 year old kid who can do HUGE 9's in the pipe definitely deserves to be sponsored. He's a fucking awesome skier all around...even outdoing others who are fully sponsored. Remember... a lot of companies have kids lines of clothes and skis. Who better to represent than a kid that rips.

why the fuck would you bring up roy tuscany.. he is good he got skills.. sure he isnt the best but could school you guys anywhere on the mtn. hes from stowe, vt and grew up skiing there with park woods bumps and bc skiing all there. the reason why tuscany has exposure is b/c he sells himself (self promoter) and thats what companies like. they like the people that plug their product and get out there and spread the word.. look at k2skeepimp.. i wasnt even included in this thread and he just plugged zeal optics and my name b/c im associated with them. and for kye peterson.. that boy got skills. even if he wasnt trevor's son hed still get sponsored.. he ski's whistler all the time and at age 10 he was doin d spin 7 tail's. also in ski movie 2 he does that huge rainbow rail 'lil kids like kye peterson doin rails that would make big kids cry' was the quote i think in it. that kid is our future of skiing in 3-5 years..
