Exploring Abandoned Detroit

Some friends and I took a trip downtown to explore the "not so nice" side of Detroit. Thought I'd share some pics and tell you about some of what we saw.

The first building we went into was one of Detroit's old rec centers.

We found everything from old books, to drug needles and homeless people.

After touring the whole building, we walked next door to the abandoned projects and went all the way up one of the five buildings.

It was eerie seeing a 15 story building completely empty.

From the roof we could see an awesome view of our city.

As most of you know, Detroit is not all like this. It really isn't dangerous unless you're out asking for trouble. It was cool to experience this side of the city and I hope to do some more exploring soon.

It's all a scheme set up by the Japanese to keep you from buying American made cars. Detroit is actually a flourishing utopia with virtually no crime.

what building is that 15 story one? I'm intrigued, i wanna take a trip to detroit now. i wouldn't care much for checking out abandoned houses, but large abandoned buildings wouldbe amazing

Abandoned areas have always interested me for some reason. Great shots by the way!

Looks like maybe part of the Brewster projects.

I don't know why the allure towards abandoned structures is so strong, but this makes me want to see them all...

That Communist base in the Bulgarian mountains looks FUCKING SICK, I'd put that and the Texas Supercollider on a bucket list in a heartbeat.

My dad and I stopped in Detroit for a Tigers game on one of our road trips once. When we pulled out of the hotel in the morning the streets were empty accept for the mass crowd of people around the court house

>get rich>try and buy one old abandoned building for good price

>have abandoned building

>make building my house and live there

>ya

I have heard about that city in China, absolutely crazy!! In my opinion the creepiest part is how modern and well kept everything looks, which just puzzles me as to why there is nobody there. I hope i can someday check it out! I totally agree with you abandoned places are so fucking cool, but with some of them you definitely gotta keep in mind what else or who else could be lurking in these places, also alot of abandoned buildings are a serious biohazard from all the bird shit and what not that has accumulated.

A woman I work with bought an 8,000 Sq ft home in Indian Village for $36,000 during the housing market crisis. She and her husband spent the rest of the money they had set aside for a house budget renovating and restoring it. It is one of the most beautiful houses I have ever seen. It has a fucking full size ballroom on the third floor.

Really cool photos OP!

If you guys are interested in this, than you HAVE to check out this website. It has thousands of abandoned detroit buildings on it. They categorize the buildings and then provide stories/history of the buildings and tons of pictures. It is pretty erie just looking at some of the pictures.

Check out the one for Cass Tech High School. Absolutely amazing in a bad way

Those pics are insane! I've seen some of those places before, but that church looks amazing. I will look into those.

Haha yeah. They had a nice event for Go Skate Day there though. Also, after seeing these pictures, I'm thinking I might have to go explore some buildings again soon!

In Foxboro MA there's an abandoned state hospital that used to be a mental institution. It's even got a couple smokestacks with ladders on the insides of them that you can sort of climb up. But it's unfortunately a druggie haven and once while exploring at night, my friends and I got chased out by some crackheads. But I'm with you OP, I love exploring abandoned shit. There's an abandoned airplane factory near my area, I'll try to round up a crew to go explore and hopefully get some pics.

This is seriously pathetic. The definition of ghetto gawking. Backpacks and everything.....

I love how you acted like this was an african safari or ghost hunting. They're dilapidated buildings.
