i work in rentals during the winter at a tiny place in southern ny, allways seems like people are suppreised i dont snowboard and when i say i ski and they ask what kind of skis i have/use, i say _____(the skis i got) always get a look, and then say twin tips, still get the look, than YOU KNOW TRICK SKIS and they almost get it then, i say flips spins and grinds and it finalyy kicks in 100 % seems like most people are r idiots maybe their just gapers, weekend warriors, or choobs

happens to any one else

Seems strange that somebody would ask what kind of skis you have, but have never heard of twins.

God i love how freeskiing is still devoloping, but i hate it at the same time. Everybody still refers to my twins as trick skis, and endless gaper quotes. You're not alone man.

Oh. Somehow I missed the part about you working in a rental shop. That makes waaay more sense.

other than mountain people & even still (i know some people from mountain towns who are completely oblivious to newschool movement) no one knows about newschool skiing, its kind of a fringe thing. i get the same thing when i tell people i ski .............i get funny looks, and i have to explain "not tight pants spyder suit skiing , skiing like snowboarders" and then i explain how ski construction has become more similar to snowboard construction ladidadida....and even still im not sure they get it. they just have it in their heads that snowboarders are the ones who do twirly spinny stuff. its especially tuff trying to explain to my skate homeboys that i ski, i grew up in the city far away from mountains,,,,,there like skiing wuh.........why?!?!?!?!?!?!

a similar thing happens to me at school. when i explain to people that I ski, they're like "you need to snowboard cause they go off jumps"and when i tell them that i do go off jumps, they give me this blank look and say something like " they let you ski on the trick slopes?"

I tried to explain it to my dentist, I told him both tips of the skis we're bent up so you can ski frontwards or backwards.. After a long and puzzled look he said "OHHH, you SKIBLADE!"

just carry around little flyers with a link to the 4bi9 hyphy edit on youtube and hand them out. problem solved.

i have trouble explaining too, like i met some new people at a resort, and im like no not gay skiing like racing, but jumps and rail skiing, like newschool stuff

I tried explaining it to my 70+ year old great uncle... he even tried on my spk kreations and mojo 80's. see for an old guy it makes sense that he has never heard of freestyle. explaining rails is really hard, ho do you tell someone that you jump and land sideways on a piece of metal in the middle of a ski run. he asked "what is the purpose?" and I said "its a challenge"

Hook up a DVD player or VCR (remember those?) and have a video playing at all times. My local shop did this, I graciously donated some flicks I picked up at the NS office, and they had no trouble at all explaining freeskiing.
